A guy with the username camelspit(hopefully I spelled that right) seems to know a lot about the SC. Hopefully he can be of more help.
Is it only with rocket league? (Do other games work ok)?
Hmm, I wodner if Rocket League is somehow messing up the software for the SC, and causing this problem.
Two more threads on this:

It's really terrible. With this bug I play like a drunken Semi-Pro with two left hands and get therefore ridiculed a lot in RL. "Can't you hit the ball once?!" "Wow!" "OMG!" "What a save!"
It's really bad.
Did you calibrate the controller BEFORE seeing this issue? I don't remember this issue until I tried calibration just to see how steam handled it. Curiosity may have killed the cat here..
I've tried calibrating after the issue. Firmware is latest. Both controllers are having the same issue but it isn't constant. Going into add/test and pressing Y for support to test function shows this problem sorta comes and goes. When it is happening, it fails the rotate joystick test (can't pass it but yellow dot looks like its 100%). It was originally happening with 1 of my controllers. I filled out the return form. Two days later It was happening again with my other controller. I checked serial #'s thinking I may have mixed up controllers. It was def 2nd controller. Went to test and it failed joystick rotate,
Turned on 1st controller and tested, now it passed joystick rotate. tried 2nd again and it still failed.
Hard to believe it is hardware. This is the only controller where self calibration doesn't test joystick rotate to calibrate. Only tests joystick rotate during "support" test.
I have calibrated, changed batteries, gone through the support routine, everything. I want to try reverting to the previous firmware, since I only started noticing this today, but I don't know how.
I REALLY hope there's a fix, because I just spent three days sucking at Rocket League while I learned the SC, and I can't go back to not having the grip buttons!
BongMang, I have found the issue comes randomly and stays until I turn off the controller. Sometimes I find it when I first start playing, other times it seems to kick in and then stays...
I follwed the instructions here:

I flashed the "firmware [D81AD7BC].bin" version. I tried the other first because it was more recent but it had the problem, too.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the problem is really fixed. It's been great for the last few hours anyway.
Going into add/test and support clearly shows the problem during joystick test. You can see the yellow dot indicator move slightly in on the left side of the circle. Left to lower left area to be exact.
So its not a game specific issue. It is certainly the controller.
The good news (at least for me) is that old firmware did fix it. Hopefully they'll have it sorted out for the next version, but I'll stay on this old one for as long as it takes.
