Steam Overlay not working with uplay, please help.

I try to play rainbow six siege with my steam controller. I added rainbow six has a non steam game since i have it on uplay, when launched i cannot do shift tab to see the steam overlay thus making the controller not working. I tried adding uplay to non steam games to has a lot of people said. Ive tried mostly everything and cannot make it work, help would be gratly appreciated.

Set the R6.exe to always run as admin, then run steam as admin and see if it fixes that problem.

It does sound strange but i recently came across this tip here on the forums and it has already solved issues with a bunch of games for me so it is certainly worth a shot, external launchers like Uplay always prove to be tricky.

Thank you buddy for the reply, ive put eveything under admin, steam uplay and R6.
It doesnt seem to fix the issue, i dont even have the steam overlay working in R6.
It did work before and i havent done anything new in settings. My friend tried it and he has the overlay without a problem. THere must be some king of dumb little thing that keeps me away from it.

Ive never managed to get it working consistantly myself. Sometimes it will launch with the overlay, sometimes it wont.

Only advice is can give is make sure the Uplay overlay is disabled. Only time it ever worked was after I turned that off.

Weird cause Origin games work no problem 100% of the time.

But really, what do we expect from Ubisoft?

Yea so weird, it doesnt seem to affect alot of us. I tried disabling the uplay overlay but same thing, cannot shift tab. Plus disabling the overlay for R6 gives a error i think (i think you need it for that game).

When launching from big picture the game launches and it acts as if the game shut down, altough the game works, the steam controller works (desktop mode only). And then triyng to shift tab (nothing happens) and press middle button. middle button brings me back to big picture but still acts as if the game is not on, my friends can see that i am playing R6 via steam friends. So im really wondering what to do, i hope this may give insight for others if we find the issue...

Hey just be glad the attempt doesnt break the games key bindings. Trying to use the SC with The Crew causes the game to corrupt its config files and causes all the controller bindings to go blank. Deleting the config generally doesnt cause a new one to generate as well, so trying to play the crew with my SC caused me to lose the ability to use ANY controllers, and since its a racing game it may as well have broken the EXE since its unplayable.

Other Programs may be interfering with Steam Overlay...
Look for files in Your System Tray(Windows OS I presume) and shut them down (non Essential to your OS)One by One...Testing your game after each one is shut down..
Trying to see which ones are interfering with the steam overlay...
I had FRAPS interfere with my steam overlay in CoD Advanced Warfare, I simply uninstalled it.....
Testing with each app from the system tray turned off-to be sure it's the right one...
Once you find out the app, turn the app off/uninstall it(If Non-Essential)... Reeboot...
Test to see if it is fixed...
Test all the other apps to see if more than one app is interfering with the steam overlay....
There might be more than one app interfereing with your game(s)...
AND Different apps affect each game differently...
FRAPS disagrees with CoD Advanced Warfare on my machine..

Well, ive tried verifying game files for R6 and it found corrupted data wich i repaired, retried after that and still doesnt work.

I even tried deleting the steam API in r6 folder it created, erased it from my non steam games and added it again (wich recreated the steamapi thing.

Still not working

nothing running besides steam and uplay (even took off the antivirus). Removed uplay overlay, removed in game fps from both steam and uplay. ctrl alt delete to make sure nothing is running besides that and still no steam overlay.

Is there a way to force it ?

You say removed FPS display on steam? That doesnt exist in BPM ATM so are you using BPM to use it?

Also, strange because usually, like with Origin disabling the overlay fixes it since they both use the same method of hooking the render pipeline to display the overlays. I havent actually used a Uplay game with my SC yet so I think I will try and see what I can and get back to ya. Im sure SOMEONE out there in this community has had similar and can help tho. Well for trying to set the game i came out of BPM to see options and stuff but when i launch the game to test if it works i do try it in BPM, i just tried the option, hey you never know ;).

The day i got the controller (last week) i just added rainbow 6, launched it in BPM had the overlay tried different configuration had a blast even if i suck at the game. But now ive been trying to play for the last 4/5 days looking in forums and stuff, and it just doesnt seem to work, like i said been testing with a friend of mine today, while we where on ts and it works perfectly fine for him, plus he has more than one thing in the sys tray, oh man, im gonna call a priest and by some candels to exercise this demon.

If you are still having problems ...
Opt into beta..
Or opposite
Opt out of beta..

This might help too.... it's a shot in the dark but hopefully it may help..
Kickstarting it to see if it works... There are a ton of fixes(and new Bugs)..
Solved either way with the beta opting..
