Unable to Modify LMB/RMB clicks when holding shift?
I'm playing Torchlight and the mechanism the game uses to quick-transfer items from one pane to another is SHIFT + LMB. Any key I bind to shift does not engage this secondary function (i.e. I can hold the (R) grip which I have set to the shift key, and press the (R) trigger, and it acts just as if I only press the mouse button). Unfortuantely the game doesn't let me change the modifier key, so I can't test whether this is a problem with using the keyboard concurrently with the mouse click, or whether it's key specific. All other functions work just fine. I'm on OS X 10.11.2, and have the most recent firmware for the controller and the most recent Steam Beta. My best bet is that since the controller is trying to emulate a keyboard button and a mouse button at the same time, the input isn't read by the "keyboard" and the mouse click takes priority. Anyone else have issues like this, or a work-around?

You could set the modifier in the trigger to the left grip then on the second set of trigger controls have both key held down instead of just one. Leave the grip empty of keys, I haven't had this problem but I haven't used shift with a mouse click

I forgot to mention that I have tried exactly that, having one key bound to both shift and LMB, which behaves the exact same way. I've also tried having a key bound to right shift, left shift, and each mouse button and it still won't recognize the shift buttons as being pressed

Nope, never got any fix working to bind keyboard plus mouse buttons, let me know if you hear anything

When I was playing I just ended up drag/dropping, since shift+ RMB wouldnt bind. Slower, but at least functional.

I would point out that it's not simply being able to bind the shift key to a button on the controller, it seems to be a problem with binding a key and mouse combination that's the problem. I'm on a Mac and using command+RMB to unlearn a spell in torchlight 1 is just as inoperable as shift+LMB/RMB for targeting and inventory management.

I haven't played TL2, but TL1 doesn't allow custom remapping of buttons, so I wasn't able to test and see if it's only keyboard modifier keys (ctrl, alt, command, shift etc) or if alphanumeric keys are affected as well

Kris, your last post makes no sense considering your previous post with customer service on the issue - did you mean Mode Shifting instead of 'Shift modifier'?

Regarding the email chain with Customer service on modifier key mapping support in OS X, holy Jesus, what a load of Baloney! First: They don't support manual configuration with Steam Controller? It's a core feature of the software, they better damn well support it if it doesn't work right! what the hell.

Secondly, the support rep says you can achieve multiple key mappings via Mode Shifting, that is not at all what you were talking about, I am (not?) surprised the agent couldn't figure that out by your description. Multi-key binds for a single action are achieved by pressing Y to TOGGLE MULTI-BUTTON ON (or OFF) which then allow you to assign multiple keyboard, mouse or x-input controller actions to the single action from the visual map provided.

I think your ticket got slapped into boilerplate response mode and you were shipped back here for help by the links provided, because they are not listening to the issue you described plainly.

HEY VALVE, You want us to Post our problems here? WE ARE. Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Cmd(Win) keys DO NOT MAP into games on OS X, regardless whether we use an official Steam Game Controller Config, a Community Config or manual setup. Shift / Alt / Control key mappings are BROKEN on OS X.

Thanks jtnix, and to clarify, I have tried to assign both shift and the RMB to a single, dedicated button (I tried with both the grip and one of the triggers) with no change in the function. I think that the steam controller has to "see" both the virtual keyboard and virtual mouse, and cannot map two different virtual devices to the same button on the controller, leading to this issue. I'm very curious to see if this is truely an OS X issue, as I was nearly ready to return my steam link because of the awful support that it gave OS X in the first 2 months of release (I've since been pretty happy with it, to be fair).

Using MacOS. Tried this for torchlight 2 and it worked. http://steamcommunity.com/app/353370/discussions/0/348293292500460610/
