Steam Controller

Steam Controller

"Cannot export configurations as a guest"
I'm unable to save any configurations for any games anymore. Whenever I click "export", the error message in the title occurs. Is there any way I can fix this, or am I at the mercy of Valve?

I don't know if this is related, but the other day I tried using my Steam controller on somebody else's computer, and I exported a configuration there successfully. Could that have messed up the controller on my main computer?

Exactly in the same boat. I received the controller as a gift and used on the computer of where I was (different Steam account though). Now I'm home trying to export a configuration and get that message. Don't know if it's related to the other computer as well...

Well seems like I had connection problems. After disconnecting my VPN, Steam registered my controller and wiped the change I had made as a guest. I started over and could save this time...

I managed to fix it. Turns out I just needed to restart my laptop.

Some people have reported that opting out of the beta updates for the steam client fixed the issue. Before trying that I just launched Steam with administrator privileges (on Windows 10) which solved it. My exports now save correctly.

A simple restart fixed this problem for me.

Hey, just chiming in here seeing as its google's #1 result for the problem.
I use a wired Xbox 360 controller. Was having the same problem. It's worth noting that I primarily use Big Picture Mode, so I had never set up the controller configuration through the Windowed Steam interface.
I tried everything listed here, but my fixed happened as follows:
(In Steam Windowed Mode) Steam>Settings
Select "Controller" then click on "General Controller Configuration". This brings up another window in the style of Big Picture.
Turned on Xbox Configuration Support, and under "Detected Controllers", I registered the controller, although I cannot give an exact walk through of this part, as I cannot "Deregister" it so I can go through it again.
It seems as though the controller must be registered to the Steam Account you are trying to export your configuration with.

I hope this proves useful to someone, if so please confirm it here, or if anyone has more to add, please chime in. Unfortunately this seems to be a simple fix not outlined by Steam. Enjoy!:steamhappy:

Just a heads up, running steam as admin threw up a whole load of problems for me. BPM actively advises against it.

Like i said, none of the fixes listed above worked for me, but at the same time, I had no issues resulting from them. I had to do some playing around with the settings by trial-and-error to figure it out. I would absolutely recommend doing this out of Big Picture Mode, as I tried for days with no luck until I tried through windowed mode.
This issue seems to be a different fix for everyone.
