If it's the same problem, you don't actually need to unplug the batteries -- simply turn off the controller, and it should work acceptably for a while. It seems the right joystick range slowly reduces until you become unable to move to the right in Steam (or much anything, really). Clicking the stick while it's all the way to the right may get you through the menus in Steam, which can be handy when you want to get to the diagnostic test for confirmation.
Notably, the controller test passes fine when the controller has just been started, but refuses to acknowledge that you have moved the stick in a complete circle after a while (15 to 20 minutes should be enough).
If anyone knows how to revert to an older firmware, I would love to try that. Otherwise, I'm probably going to frustrate myself trying to play while frequently restarting my controller (Yes, I do have other controllers which technically work correctly, but this one has ruined me for all others -- take responsibility, Valve :) )
I need to update, the stick is NOT registering all the way to the right in the test. It fails to reach the outermost ring from about 2 to 5 o'clock, making an almost backwards upper case 'D' in its actual range of input. Also a preorder model.
Start from 3:00 timestamp in the video below, see that shadow from the bump? He is pointing right at it with his finger beside the logo (3:12) and don't notice anything

1:20, see the same bumping from thumbstick?

And that's just first 2 random videos from Youtube SC unboxing search!
Valve should be aware about that!
I wonder now, is it can be resolved by changing calibration process and setting bigger deadzone for that matter??
I get this problem when tilting the stick left. First noticed it in the Rocket League garage menu. It didn't seem to be a problem in-game, thought maybe it was Rocket League's problem, but lately I'm missing spins. I find that if I hold left when it doesn't register and rock the stick up and down along the rim it will eventually register the left signal. It's been happening since I got it, a preorder that came in early November.

I rolled back my drivers and now it works fine
Edit: It's getting worse, now i can only use it for like 5 min before getting bad.
Edit 2: Now like 2 min. However after rolling back my firmware and choosing "not now" when prompted in big picture mode. Then after a couple of min the analogue stick stops functioning correctly again and if i restart big picture it will not ask me to update, so i guess it has updated either way in the background. Is there a way to turn off firmware update for SC?
I tried this just now and it sorta fixed the issue of it jittering to the right side but now it's more jittery when it goes up or down. Still a useful guide though, thank you
