Sweaty Palms
Sometimes during tense games i get sweaty palms, as I'm sure others can agree they do too. With so much of the pad relying on touch, does this affect gameplay?

I have had situations in hot weather where im trying to spin the dial on my Ipod to select a track/adjust volume and due to my sweaty fingers nothing was happening.

Might be an odd topic but it is the one thing stopping me from tryin the steam pad

Great, thank you

The trackpads can also be pressed just like normal buttons—unlike that dial thingy on your Ipod.

And there are buttons, triggers and an analog stick that you can use instead.

Unless your sweat creates an impenetrable barrier around objects, you shouldn't let it stop you. :DEALWITHIT:

I can understand why this could be an issue, if you were using your palms to control the touchpads. I happen to get my thumbs sweaty, and that can kind of cause them to "stick" when I would prefer them to slide. If anyone has some advice for this, it would be appreciated.

I do! I have sweaty meat fueled fat guy hands. No joke. There are 3 things about the SC that make this less of a problem and 2 things you can do to essentially make it a non issue.

  1. The steam controller is only used by the tips of your thumbs so there is less contact with the pads than you think thus not so much of a problem to begin with.
  2. You pretty much have to use a more relaxed looser grip that you do on the XBOX or PS controllers. This means you are making no forceful contact with the SC and less sweaty hands.
  3. The texture of the pads themselves make for a smooth glide generally. It's better than you might think even when slightly sweaty.

The TWO things you can do to keep this from being an issue?

  1. Keep your controller CLEAN. Clean the trackpad surfaces with 90% or better rubbing alcohol as often as you think about it. The trackpads wont stick if you are lightly sweaty but they WILL stick if there are oil build ups on the pad from not keeping it clean.
  2. Wash you greasy hands!!! :) Not kidding here either. I for one wash my hand immediately before using my SC every single time. What this does is it keeps your hands from making the oily deposits in the first place.

Really, you should be cleaning your controllers and washing your hand regularly before gaming since forever with every controller ever made since PONG. This is something so many people just plain dont do and they are nasty. If I come to your house and your controller feels like you just ate KFC you will no longer me my friend. Kinda like the guys who just keep throwing discs not in the case label side down anywhere they want when changing games. It's just one of those things that would SEEM like a no brainer but so many people just dont do it. Drives me bananas!

Oh, and I dont presume to know you personally but I have a couple buddies, who are black, and they have this thing about using coco butter like ALL the time. Skin products will likely be the worst thing because they are designed NOT to just wear off with sweat and will get all over the place. I know this goes right back to the whole wash your hands thing but skin products were worth a mention.

Good luck, its not bad you will love it when you get one!
