Problems configuring for Battlefield 4
Hey,

I'm trying to create a good config for Battlefield 4 and I have a couple of problems.
I'm running steam with admin privs on Windows 10, overlay is enabled and I'm in the beta thingy.
I start battlefield 4 from big picture mode.

Problem 1 - I can only get the left stick to work for movement when it is mapped as buttons WASD, shouldn't it work as a joystick as well? A normal XBox controller works fine, I assume that it outputs an analog joystick for the left stick? The major problem here is that button presses seems to get lost somehow, resulting in me getting "stuck" when moving in the game. Releasing the stick usually makes me become "unstuck". If I map some of the steam controller buttons to joypad buttons this effect seems to get worse, just moving forward is "stuttery".
This makes the game unplayable basically. If I press the WASD keys on the keyboard I don't get this problem.

Problem 2 - Only the Desktop configuration seems to work. Whatever I configure in the game shortcut controller settings is ignored, only the "global" config is actually used by the game.
I'm also baffled by how the configurations work, are changes saved automatically? It seems like I have to create a new config for every little change - no modifying existing configs since if I export a config it will always create a new one. Is it supposed to work this way? I feel like I'm missing something.

Any help is much appreciated.
Sincerely
Pek

Select radial overlay for moving in the movement part of your settings, Use the controller with template for KB+M and adjust the keys for BF 4..:steamhappy:.
Sorry about that I had to do this for BF3:steamhappy:
you may have to run steam.exe (steams own exec not just OS as admin)as admin:steamsad:
Cheers:steamhappy:

configuring bf4 for the steam controller is hard.... when i did, i had to wait like 30 seconds for the changes i made in bpm to take effect in the game. may be you have been too fast?! ;)
its worth a try...

starting steam as admin helped me through some issues too....
good luck ;)

I play bf4 all the time it works great as both, I have the controller set up as gamepad but replace the the right stick with the mouse. I have no issues configuring it on the fly.

Have you added bf4 as a shortcut or did you add origin launcher.

Thanks for your responses guys!

Am I correct in assuming that the game-specific config works for you? If that is the case I suspect that both my issues are related. Not that I have any idea of how to fix it. Possibly I set up the shortcut incorrectly, but it does start bf4 correctly and the controller sort of works.

I added the origin launcher as the shortcut.

The controller seems to work ok in Fallout 4, maybe this is an issue with non-steam games?
Windows 10?

I managed to solve my problem by doing two things
1. Make sure origin is not running already. I killed it in the Task Manager and disabled it on startup. Possibly there's confusion if it's started on boot since it is then not started through steam. Unsure if this did anything, but it's a change I did.
2. Disable "Enable Origin In Game" in Origin (Origin->Application Settings->Origin In Game).
Most likely this is what did the trick.

Now the game specific configs works and setting the left stick as an analogue joystick for movement works. Wohoo!

nb. Steam had an update since yesterday as well, unsure what impact it had.

Just wanted to say I was also having this problem. I spent hours trying to fix it. Pek is correct.

1)You must make sure Origin settings are to close on game start (right click on game in Origin and go to the properties to change),
2) Disable Origin overlay (In origin settings)
3) Exit Origin.
4) Restart Steam by running as Admin (I needed this others havn't)
5) Open Big Picture
6) Run Battlefield

This is assuming you have already added Battlefield as a non steam game.
