Windows 10 Steam controller driver issues *SOLVED*
Hello,

I got a steam controller recently. I paired it with the steam link I got recently. When I do this the controller seems to work fine, however, when I connect the controller to my Windows 10 machine, Windows sees the controller as a simple keyboard and mouse, but doesn't let me configure the device at all. When I load up big picture, it doesn't recognize a steam controller is connected. On top of this, the mouse side of the controller is going crazy when I don't have a finger directly on the device. I tried power cycling the controller, power cycling the computer, connecting directly using the included usb cable, and searched for any type of driver update (Windows 10 doesn't even recognize valve as the creator of the device. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kyse_zenith

Is there another machine that you can test it with?

Windows, no matter what version will see the SC as an HID device.

Tried this? (Even if you have no Razer)

Open device manager
Expand "Razor Device"
Unplug/replug steam dongle (Take note of which things disappear, reappear when you do this)
Right click on all those devices and select "Uninstall"
If you have a check box asking to uninstall software as well, make sure you check it first.
Unplug/replug steam dongle
Start big picture, go to settings/controller/add steam controller
Hold x and steam button when powering on

Thanks AngryHatter, that did the trick! I removed the device from devices and printers, but never removed the HID drivers from device manager. I never would have guessed that the drivers would be in razer devices (I have multiple razer devices and would have assumed that the drivers for those devices would be present there (they aren't). I really appreciate the help!
Now put "SOLVED" in the title so others can find it easily.
;)

Anytime.

I'm having this same problem but these steps aren't working for me - on Win10. I removed all the "Virtual HID Minidriver Collection" entries under the Razer heading but I still get "no controllers detected" and no way to add my steam controller - also the configuration per-game settings aren't showing up in the library.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I just had this problem and Stilgar's steps fixed the problem! Thanks a ton.

[57th] AngryHatter that is incorrect, on WIndows 7 my SC was found in Windows Settings -> Gamepads and controllers on windows 10 is it not, I have tried these steps but am unable to use the controller in non steam games.
