Thanx Boo! Trying this now.
No dice. Now the game doesn't launch at all.
I finally got my Steam Controller, and honestly this just seems like a bug, unless its intentional for some reason.
You can do a "Desktop Configuration" and set every button to do what you want in the desktop and non-steam programs. It lets you set x-input controllers to buttons here, but for some reason, those x-input buttons are not sent to the desktop. Everything else gets sent correctly, just not gamepad buttons.
If that was fixed, then every game would work, even if you didn't add it to steam first. Hopefully they'll change that!

Yeah, the fact that hasnt been removed implies they may do it eventually. Most games work just fine but for those that dont, reverting to desktop config AS Xinput would be the next best thing IMO. Heres, hoping!

The SC wasn't working for me either after there was an update on TW3. The game hadn't been updated on my PC for a long time because I hadn't launched the GOG client in a while. Now the version jumped from 1.8 to 1.12 and somewhere along the line my SC stopped working. I just fixed it.

This is what worked for me:
Close everything. Open GOG Client. Go to TW3 - manage, and UNCHECK "game overlay" under the DLC section. What for the configuration to save and then you can go launch TW3 from BPM.

Apparently whatever that GOG overlay is was interfering with my steam BPM and the controller had stopped working properly. After TW3 had updated to ver 1.12 I couldn't use my save because the beads and hair dlc was not found for some reason. I had gone back to GOG to check off the DLC so it would redownload and I think that's when I checked "game overlay" as well and ruined everything.

Hope this helps someone!
Usually just disabling overlays is enough. It seems like most ov the overlays, GOG and Origin, use the same method to hook into the renderer. You can imagine Why that would cause issues having multiple overlays vying for the render pipeline. Too bad it stopped working for you after an update. Have you tried stable yet?

I have also found that anything that runs on DX12 wont work at all either, that disappoints me since I now have 2-3 things I would like to run that use it. I think it's far past time for a service and not relying on the overlay, at least in the same way, like they do now.
After the latest updates to Steam Beta, I have no problem running TW3 as a non-steam game from Big Picture, whether GOG overlay is enabled or not - but the Steam overlay will not load in either case. Not sure if that's yet another problem with the latest Steam beta, or something else.

Steam Controller works great with the game, though.
Thats the new focus based control scheme thing. Its good, tweaking needed but it is more or less better.
Hmmm. Interesting, is there more info about this somewhere? Could this help us figure out the XBox Streaming w/Steam Controller idea?
Thats my hope though i haven't tried it yet. It does allow many games to work like Tomb Raider 2 and also some of the Origin games like your experience with W3. It does make launchers not allow the use of mouse before the game launches unless you include it in the config, hence the tweaking.
yup steam controller sucks, i just have it here for 2 days and its just terrible. even with steam games wich claim to be fully supported for controller things just dont work (trine 2, just cant execute certain moves!)
and with the witcher i have exactly the same issues as u guys. its a damn waste of money this controller, worst controller i ever used.
if u are thinking about buying it, just dont. get a 360 controller.

I believe "go jump in a lake" is in order. It works perfect, this is why you don't reply to a thread over a year old. :steamfacepalm:
