Taking Screenshots with a Controller
2 Years ago, i could set up my Xbox Controller in Steam and choose a screenshot button, but since they updated the design some months ago, i cant seem to find those menu anymore. In the controller section, i can only test the buttons and configure sticks and vibration, nothing else. How exactly can i choose a screenshot button? I got a new controller that even has 2 extra Buttons on the back. Please help me, it annoys me to always use f12 now.

It depends on where you want to take a screenshot.

You can screenshot anytime as long as Steam is running by holding the Xbox Guide button and pressing a certain button. To check what button that is, from Gaming Mode, hold the Xbox Guide button for a few seconds. A list should pop up showing all the commands, Take Screenshot should be the last one.

To change that, go to Settings -> Controller -> Guide Button Chord Layout. Edit Layout, find your button, give it a new command, tab over to System, and choose Take Screenshot. Back out, select the cogwheel to the left of "Edit Layout" and Export Layout.

If you want to screenshot from the desktop, change the Desktop Layout instead.

Take Screenshot in game
You can have a button take a screenshot while in a game, but instead of the Steam Settings, go to the controller settings of your game. In gaming mode, click on the game, but instead of Play, choose the controller icon on the right. Add the Take Screenshot command like you would for the Desktop Layout instructions.

But that menu does not show me an option to configure the buttons on the back of my controller. I can only choose an option for every regular button. But i can not choose an Option first and the button afterwards. You know what i mean? It doesnt recognize the special buttons, so i can not give them a task. I have to admit, my new controller is not an original Xbox Controller, but it looks almost identical and had 2 special buttons on its back. It has no own screenshot button like the original xbox controller. Thats why i wanted to use those special buttons. Windows and Steam itself both recognize the device as Xbox One S Controller.

Those back buttons copy a button on the controller. Steam can't see those buttons as unique buttons, and that's the controller's fault.

Just use the Guide Button shortcut.
