Steam Controller

Steam Controller

Assassin's Creed 3 Doesn't Recognize Controller Inputs, but Recognizes Keyboard/Mouse Inputs.
I'm not sure what to do other than try and make a new configuration to try and get the mouse/keyboard controls to work right, but that's really just a pain. The game works fine with a 360 controller, and it should recognize inputs from the SC in the same way. I should be able to use my template for this game, but I can't. Anyone know something I can try? I already turned off Uplay's overlay, and I've tried running Steam in administrator mode. Nothing works so far. Having UPlay itself as a non-steam game didn't work either.

+1 i have the same exact issue

I found a workaround btw. If you set your Desktop binding to the one you want to use in game it will recognize the SC as a controller. I'm guessing the game doesn't like it when you "plug in" a controller after the game starts.

That's not really a workaround. If Assassin's Creed III recognize the controller, everything works like expected. The left joystick is for walking and also for navigation the menu. If you use keyboard bindings, there are different keys for walking and for navigating the menu. So it works, to use desktop bindings (it's sill painfull to change those), but without a recoginized controller it's hardly comfortable.

I have a different problem though, 'till today everything worked fine. Then Uplay crashed my installation (I don't really know why) and I had to reinstall the whole game. Afterwards Steam controller didn't work any more. It is like this, the game and the controller settings still loads (the controller setting still works!) but the XBOX Controller is not shown amongst the input devices! I can't select it.

I installed the game via the installers I got from the shop where I bought it, and not from UPlay. So I try again downloading it from UPlay to see, if this has a different result.

So has anyone had similar problems with this. Or some ideas why Assassins creed didn't recognized the controller?

ACIII doesn't recognize the controller when using gamepad outputs probably because Windows doesn't even recognize the controller until the game is launched. Perhaps ACIII looks for controllers before the game really launches, when the Steam Controller hasn't switched to the gamepad profile yet so it doesn't show up in Windows as a game controller yet. By that, I mean that it doesn't show up in "Set up USB game controllers" in the control panel (easily accessed in Windows10 by pressing the windows key to bring up the search dialog and then typing "game controllers").
This could be remedied by having a persistent controller config that is recognized by windows on the desktop and the profile doesn't switch whenever a game launches, as Cerebrum123 has mentioned, but this issue really something that should be fixed by the Steam Controller's devs.

It's the same problem I had, and I only ever found the one way to fix it. If it doesn't work for you then I'm not sure what you can do other than making sure at least one Xinput device is plugged in when you start the game, and then switching to use the SC.

HI anyone solve this? I try to play the game with Xbox One controller and try eagle vision not working because it says press L button...

Well, I'm not getting the issue anymore. L would likely mean the left stick being clicked in. This was also an issue for the Steam Controller specifically, and not something like the Xbox One controller.
