Joystick move/camera choppy (not perfect circle)
EDIT / UPDATE

This seem to be a problem with 'Joystick move or camera'. I'm experiencing 'Dead zone shape' = square, even though I have it set to circle. Just not as severe.

Been playing around with 'Dead zone outer' but it doesn't help much. Also switched Joystick from linear to aggressive but it didn't help.

At first I thought this had to do with my thumb but I tried other fingers and they acted the same. Switched on SC overlay and I can clearly see that the right joystick is not moving smooth in a circle together with my finger. It always almost stops in the four "corners" (imagine it's a square). The left touchpad works nicely. The dot is following my movement exactly.

Alexander pretty much nails it here:

JMouse works fine. Been using it in Fallout 4 with no problems.

And yes, I'm using Steam beta = Firmware updated

I have noticed this before and yesterday I noticed it in Trine 2 and How to survive.

When aiming with the bow in Trine 2 the aiming stutters a lot. So much that it even made me think that what if I just save some nerves and connect the Dualshock with a proper right joystick.
Same think in How to survive. When cirling the right touchpad around and around, some places aren't noticed by the controller and the aiming skips / stutters. This is very problematic in twin stick shooters and games that uses right joystick aiming.

Does my thumb on my work hand have too much skin on it or what's the problem? I tried pressing my thumb in the pad almost until it pressed the button and the aiming seemed to stutter / skip less.
Also tried fiddling with the anti-deadzone setting, and it helped a tiny bit I think.

Have you tried calibrating the controller? Wont necessarily solve it but could eliminate software as a problem. It could be to do with the surface of the physical device, but I've not heard many complaints of that ilk.

I enabled the SC overlay displaying the right joystick and noticed that it behaves like the setting 'deadzone shape' = square
even though it's set to circle. Not as choppy as square but it's not moving smoothly with your finger. Always jumps at the "invisible" corners. I played around with the 'deadzone outer* but it didn't help much. Neither did switching from linear to aggressive help.

I'm starting to believe that the touchpads actually are squares but they are emulating circles.

Also tried with other fingers and it behaved the same. On the SC overlay I can see that the left touchpad is working really nicely. The dot is moving exactly smooth in a circle as I move my left thumb.

Check the link below and after running through the whole guide you could also reach out to the author. There are many factors and different modes for the right track pad that go into eliminating the jitter you're referring to.

Thanks, but it didn't cover Joystick. Updated the first post and topic. This seem to only be a problem when having the right touch set as joystick.

Yeah that was my fault for not reading correctly. Shame that JMouse won't work in your situation, I really like it.

Hi, having a similar issue I think. Really poor performance in top down twin stick games (like Monaco) and also general 2D RS aim games (like Apotheon). I've noticed that when aiming around, the aim "snaps" to the horizontal and vertical axes. I am using Joystick Move of course, does anyone know if there is a way to get an actual smooth response out of the touchpad for aiming?

I managed to get a decent setup in Trine 2. Let me check what I did...

Style of input: Joystick move (noticed that Joystick move is better than J-camera for twin stick configurations)
Stick response curve: Linear (Agressive - outputs "choppy corners")
Dead zone shape: Circle
Dead zone inner: Maximum left (default)
Dead zone outer: Middle (default) (You can try to adjust this more to the left, but default worked for me)

If you want to use
Style of input: Joystick camera
Output anti-deadzone: Must be increased to the right

It helps it a bit but since J-camera doesn't have Stick response curve and Dead zone shape, it will never be as circular as J-move
