Steam Controller

Steam Controller

Can this work with a generic USB bluetooth adapter?
Specifically it's a Kinivo BTD-300 seems like it only goes up to Bluetooth 3.0, does it still work with the Steam Controller? Or does it only work with the official receiver bundled with it?

Oh, also while I'm at it might as well ask, does the Steam adapter work with other bluetooth controllers? I often like to use a Dualshock 3/4 or WiiU Pro Controller on my PC with my current bluetooth adapter, but if I could use the Steam one for this then it'd be ok to just toss it out and use that one I guess. Would be annoying to have to swap them.

SC uses wireless AFAIK, might be wrong though.
SC uses it's own dongle and nothing else. And that dongle is some special low latency wireless/bluetooth so yeah...
Ah ok, and I assume the special dongle isn't compatible with other controllers either?

Nope. It only works with the Steam controller. Kinda like the Microsoft's wireless Xbox dongle.
Except you get the Steam controller dongle for free. :steammocking:

If you have limited USB space in your computer, buy a USB hub and plug in all your dongles there. They're not that expensive, and you won't have to swap the dongles out constantly if that's your concern.
Ah alright, thanks for the reply. I guess I could go the USB hub route though I worry that would negatively affect latency or cause the connection to drop out while I'm using it, hubs I've used in the past have tended to be somewhat unreliable.
Well, as long as there's no interference in the frequencies of the dongles, you should be fine. I only got like 2 hubs i think, and i don't need them anymore (plenty of USB's on the desktop), and never experienced disconnections.

I guess, don't buy an extremely cheap one then, idk... :steammocking:
If you can afford it, buy a powered one. £10/$12 it doesn't have to be top of the line. Always much more reliable than non powered.
