Dolphin Emulator, GC control Config not Registering SC?
Hi guys,

The issue: Dolphin is not recognizing Steam Controller and so SC is not coming up in the controller config section. (I've tried wireless and then plugging it in) Still no show.

THE PROCEDURES I'VE DONE/FOLLOWED:

Initially, I added dolphin into my steam client as per excellent instructions here: https://voat.co/v/pcmasterrace/comments/121151

I then went on to follow Steve's excellent guide in youtube on how to setup the emulator here: (time stamped to start exactly where he gets into controller setup) which is where I am currently stuck:
https://youtu.be/aHZk7BKxSBs?t=23m18s

Sadly, SC is not showing up. Only input/0/keyboard mouse shows up.

I then went on to follow @cammelspit amazing guide here:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=571637466

In the guide, he entails some crucial steps in the section: Dual stage triggers with Dolphin It's here, where if working, SC gets recognized by Dolphin. Unfortunately this did not work for me. The following steps were:

1) In BPM go to Dolphin (before opening it) set SC to Gamepad Template (I use the one that just says Gamepad (for twinshooters) since I don't see one that actually says (Default Game Pad)

2) Launch game, (When I launch Soul Calibur 2 it launches with Dolphin Emulator alongside?) Anyways, I then follow the instructions and try to activate the overlay on the game lauch screen, but pressing the litup steam button just minimizes the game and then opens up the library section in BPM, which is not coinciding with what is supposed to happen according to @cammelspit guide. Which is, the overlay is supposed to just pop up over the game - as it normally does with any other game. This tells me something ain't right, but there is nothing I can do so I proceed to the following step.

3) Shut down the game, go into Dolphin control configuration and this is when SC is supposed to show up.

Sadly, it still does not register. Thus, I'm stuck unless someone can truly help. I've also tried unchecking Desktop control launcher within Dolphin configuration options within BPM, still does not work.

I'm lost here because Woodsie is using it just fine on his youtube video but he doesn't breakdown how to get it working if a situation I am going through should occur. Alas, his xinput file which he mentions in the video and description is no longer available for download. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH3Wz9qPyc0

Any help with this stressful issue will be greatly appreciated. I really want to play my Soul Calibur 2.

WHat you say you open Dolphin through steam and it goes right to the game? Do not do this. There are a couple way users can do it but most users use 3rd party shortcut generators and they introduce problems, I have seen it before. So, for testing, try just adding dolphin.exe and nothing more for starters.

You say when you hit the steam button, it just opens BPM and not the overlay? This is a problem that happens with resolution disparity with the steam controller. Two things to do when this happens.
  1. Set dolphin to exactly the same resolution that your desktop is and the same resolution the BPM is running at.
  2. Most of the time you can just launch with the desktop UI and since there is no BPM to take focus it won't.

As I told you on Reddit, make sure that the allow desktop config in launcher box is unchecked, this will make launching a game unnecessary to make the SC switch to the custom config.

Also, make sure you hit refresh before attempting to set your controls in Dolphin. I say this because the SC can take a split second longer than it takes for Dolphins control initialization code to activate Xinput. This shouldn't be a problem anymore but it used to be a thing so it is worth trying.

If for some reason you still can't get it running, just send me a friend request on steam and I will see what I can do to help. It really shouldn't be this hard to get to work but the challenge is figuring out exactly what is hanging you up here.

For Dolphin and some emulators, you have to go into the controller settings for "desktop mode" and set it to "game pad". Then you can configure just like any other game pad in Dolphin. It defaults to mouse and keyboard if you don't and it won't work.

No, you never have to do this with Dolphin. There is a checkbox under controller options in the overlay for if you feel you can't take the desktop config being used before you launch a game. That's it, really, that is literally it. Dolphin is not one of those problematic emulators that need days and days of configuration or glitches out like PJ64, pretty much JUST PJ64 actually. Works exactly like any other non-steam game.

Also, Holy freaking necro batman! Not a record but still, over a year is really stretching.

Like I said in the other thread, your input into just unchecking "overlay" did not work. So how do you think that is so pray tell?
