Generic Controller "save new personal binding" hanging
I've been using Generic Controller configs with an older Logitech Rumblepad now for quite a few weeks. I could export/save these configurations to my hearts content, they work with steam games and non-steam games alike.. apply one game to another and then save amended configs, it is great!

BUT: as of a couple days a go, I can't seem to save a configuration to save my life. I click on 'export config' then "personal" then "save new personal binding", enter a new name and then click "save" and it seems to hang. I'll let it go for a 5 minutes or so then bail out of it since it just is hung.

Is anyone else having this issue or has any guidance for me? I've seen some older information talking about 'registering' my controller, but that part of the UI doesn't have a 'register' anymore. I just see my generic controller appear and that is it.

Further, my current configurations are still working.. this just seems to be something with saving new configs.

Thanks

I don't have a clear answer for why this happens, but it's possible that the current config settings aren't overwriting properly, could be file permissions or the written file's invalid. Or maybe the configs are actually being saved, but the screen hangs because they're not displaying properly in Big Picture Mode. A quick restart in Steam usually helps, or you can try loading the Controller Config from your Game Library instead of BPM. Could be a bug with the generic config and what Steam expects in its vdf...

You could look at the folder that holds your configs in your file explorer and open up the configs in a coe editor, try looking here, assuming Steam is installed on the C drive:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\userid\config\controller_configs\apps\gameid\
I don't recommend you try to create configs this way, just take a look around and see if anything's weird.

Regarding registering controllers, that would make sense because you cannot save Steam Controller configurations as a guest account, but I'm personally not sure if that applies to Generic Controllers. I thought you could still register (or link?) controllers to your profile.

If you get three bars to infinity... You have reached the SIAPI maximum number of configs allowed... I did this twice before.. Wait for @austinp to see your post and then chat with him. He will say what to do... Try saving locally instead of in the cloud..

Thank you both for this.. I suspect that MartyWF's comment is what I'm experiencing. I have quite a few the games I play and have saved quite a few configs. Saving local works fine.. so at least I have that.

Regards to both of you and thanks for your help!

I deleted a number of configurations from the server and re-tried saving.. it just isn't working. At least I have local.. and it isn't like the configs I have are that complex.. but being a programmer.. I want to KNOW what is up.

Anyways.. thanks again.
