Steam Controller

Left trackpad's button (dpad) acting weird
TLDR: Left trackpad/dpad isn't clicking and sometimes doesn't register input some of the time. Wondering if I can have Valve have it fixed or if there's something I can do myself.

Not sure why but since yesterday the dpad has been feeling very strange.
When clicking the directional buttons, it will just barely click, if it does at all, so you get no feedback if it was triggered whatsoever.

The problem is I got it on ebay for 40 € (new and completely sealed). Valve sold the controllers for like 10 € each on Steam when they stopped making those, and I couldn't get one (seriously, great offer, but please Valve, next time limit purchases to 2 per user and not for new accounts).
So I have no idea whether I would be eligible for a used replacement unit, or a free repair from Valve. I did some research, according to German law, apparently even private sellers can't refuse warranty claims when selling a completely new and unopened product.

So is there any chance to be successful with a support request with Valve? It should be with an invoice.
Problem is that I can't see my previous purchases from private sellers on ebay so I can't contact them and ask if they happen to have a digital invoice that they would be able to send me.
Alternatively, has anyone else had this problem and was able to fix it?

I've had it for 11 about months now and I've only used it in like 2 games. Such a shame it's already acting weird.
It's not even worn at all. The left trackpad/dpad was barely ever used so I'm wondering why out of all pieces, this one broke.

My controller got fried from the USB port when connecting it to my PC, and Steam Support said they can't help because they don't make the parts anymore and have no stock left. ♥♥♥♥ sucks. Only option is to buy another one through a third party. They also told me the community could 3D print replacement parts and I could try and fix myself. Let's hope they are releasing a Steam Controller 2.

The controller's not manufactured anymore, so you can't expect to simply get a replaceme unit for free or even get another one for the discounted price. If Valve cannot honor the repair, I'd either try to figure out more about the fault or find someone else more skilled in electronics repair to help you. Take matters in your own hands.

RambleTan made a YouTube video on modifying the Steam Controller's trackpad clicks; refer to that to get an idea on disassembly and references to the trackpad buttons. Hopefully, the membrane under the pad is misaligned or something.

Thanks. Opening the thing to see if it's a simple repair is of course something that I would do, however that would obviously void any warranty (not according to EU law but try to challenge it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) if I have any, which I'm unsure about.

And yeah I'm aware they aren't made anymore. I've seen people get refurbished units to replace faulty ones, though.
