If you're using the Joystick camera on the right trackpad, then you want to adjust "Stick response curve". You can set it from slow to fast or a mix of both, and the option that it moves fast the farther your thumb is from the center, and how gradually the camera accelerates when you move from the center to the edges of the trackpad. You can also play a bit with anti deadzone to fine tune this.
If you are using Mouse joystick then you want to look for the "Custom response curve" which will "kind of" make the movements snappier but not really because mouse joystick sucks and you need to adjust the sensitivity of it in game, so if you must use mouse joystick, then custom response curve along with edge spin will get you best results.
Useful post, always learn new things about the controller. However, Is there any new tips on dealing with Mouse-like Joystick since the recent update to the feature? I've been trying to get it working in GTA V and it's still sloppy despite many changes.
new options:
*Enhance Precision (to be used in conjuction with minimum x/y movement)
*Custom Response Curve
I've messed around with both and it's definitely a big improvement in some games, but I'm struggling with it in GTA V.
Personally, if the game doesn't require much preceision, i just use joystick camera and set the response curve to my liking. Maybe some anti deadzone.
But i tend to avoid mouse joystick if i can.
Ideally the game supports hybrid input and i can use mouse on the trackpad, but a lot of devs deliberately program in code to lock kb/m when xinput is detected. Like, they actually put effort into doing this, i mean, what's the harm in leaving both inputs?
As far as I know there is no standard way to emulate that with the steam controller currently. However you could try having an outer ring binding on the right pad on a long press that will switch to a different action set. Then mess around with the curves so the initial action set won't reach 100% and then the second action set goes to 100% stick movement.
I might try to experiment with this later though using action sets this way has always felt hacky and can introduce more problems than it solves to be worth it.
This just makes a different binding on the edges, OP asked how to make it move the camera more whrn it's further fron the center.
It sounded to me that the OP was asking how to emulate aim acceleration that's frequently hard-coded in console FPS games mainly (Deemed necessary to balance turn speed and aiming percision). Moving faster the further from the centre is already default behaviour of the analog stick and trackpads simulating analog sticks.
Actually, I think I managed to figure this out, do you own Portal? It's the game I'm currently testing this on I could send you the config.
