Can't pair wireless with USB dongle
I've used the controller wireless before, but it was many months ago.

Tried to hook it up today and it's not working. Firmware for the controller is up to date but no idea what the dongle's firmware is because the controller only works wired.

I've tried holding the A button and pressing the Steam button to turn it on and have it look for the dongle, many times. I've tried different USB ports, 2.0 and 3.0. I've tried USB hubs as well. I've tried different batteries.

I'm not sure if my computer is even finding the dongle. I'm on the beta branch of Steam. I don't have the Bluetooth FW.

Hi there,

We’re sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue.

As long as the "add a Steam Controller" option is present in the Controller Settings menu, your wireless receiver should be working normally. However, trying to pair the Steam Controller on another computer is always a good idea.

Next, please try these steps on your PC :

  • Remove the batteries
  • Connect the controller directly to your computer's motherboard with a micro USB cable
  • Open Big Picture Mode > Settings > Controller Settings
  • Highlight the controller on the bottom > Use the "Rollback FW" button to the right
  • After rollback is completed, remove the USB cable and plug it back in > Verify that the controller is detected by Steam
  • Unplug the cable and try the "Add a Steam Controller" button to pair to the Wireless Receiver

I don't have a rollback option. I have a Recover Steam controller firmware option, is that what you meant?

NVM, I updated to the Bluetooth firmware and then it gave me an option to roll back.

I still don't have an option to add another steam controller.

Are there any other devices besides a PC or laptop that can pick up the steam dongle? I have a new firetv stick, a chromebook, maybe something else lying around here.

bump

I should mention, when I plug my Steam USB dongle into my computer it doesn't even make a sound as if i had connected anything. I think the dongle is busted to be honest.

Sorry for the delay.

Just to confirm, does the same issue occur on a different computer? If so, you might need to replace the dongle, replacements are available in our Steam Store.

No I do not. Above I asked if there was another device that would pick up on a steam dongle besides a computer.

I'm still trying to figure out how to USE the dongle. I'd love to try to use it wireless.
