How to reapair a Steam Controller
I actually repair small electronics as a side gig. I recently realized controllers are about as complicated as a tv remote. This guide also applies to xbox one controllers give or take a few things.
What you will need
A T6 security screwdriver. They are hard to find, but they are the only ones that work. Do not strip bolts with sharpened cutips or slotted screwdrivers use a TORQUE SIX SECURITY it has to be security. What is the difference? Well, the security version has a hole in the tip (lol jokes) the ALLEN WRENCH version does not have a hole.
You will need something to store the screws in
You will need dry hands
Possibly a cutip and a cap full of cooking oil or wd40 (sparingly, super sparingly applied with a cutip) use this to slick any "stuck" buttons.

Unscrew the back. It still won't come off, right? Well that's because there are HIDDEN SCREWS under the back battery panel. You will see two slots with copper underneath near the top in the middle above the steam logo. Feel around to the right and left of the slots. Pess hard. You will notice there are little indentations, those are holes. Get a box cutter and SLICE. It's just really thick paper, it's not plastic. it will look ugly later but it'll be covered so who cares? There's one last screw right above the bottom slot, a bit left of the "VALVE" logo. Slice AROUND that, because there is no hole, feel for the screw and slice around it use tweezers to peel off the top. Now you're steam controller should come apart! Take it apart slowly. Unscrew anything you feel is holding down your controller. There should be 3 seperate pieces when you are done. The last piece won't come off because of the electro magnetic orange Valve tape under the touch pads. Unplug them from the bottom slowly and carefully, you can plug them back in so don't worry just be CAREFUL. Now you can fix, replace or mod any thing at your leisure! just be sure to keep track of everything. For mashed buttons I coat the edges in oil and make sure to clean everywhing while you're there. Dust gets built up behind the triggers. there is a black pad that connects the dpad, xyab buttons and power button. Align it to the back of everything (instead of the circuit board) so it doesent slip when you put it back together. The controller innards are build like a puzzle, I really can't articulate any further. Just use common sense. You may have to order stuff if it's physically broken. As for fixing the Steam Receiver that usually requires soldering, just order a new one they're like $12. BUT you may need to replace your charger receiver at the top right? That DOES come out, easily. You might have to wiggle it if it's mashed. You can replace that with one from an old cell phone or tablet, should work cherry. This is all, Write me if you have any questions.

Why don't you make a guide? It'll last longer due to it not being buried under other forum threads.
You could even include photos.

Dude, iFixit already explained the same thing last year, https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Steam+Controller+Teardown/52578 .

Except the second half of the second paragraph. Great info.
