Steam Controller

Steam Controller

I got this 8BitDo controller that isn’t working right on Steam (PLZ HELP!)
I just recently received an 8BitDo M30 gamepad and for some reason the controller goes crazy when I set it to X-Input on Steam.

I’ve tried it with Emulators and I’ve concluded that it’s not the controller’s fault because it works just fine with them. However when I set it up on Steam, the D-pad flips out and gets stuck on up and the other buttons don’t want to work.

The closest thing I could do to get it to work is to set it to the MacOS input, and even then it sometimes has trouble recognizing the controller on Steam.

So I ask, is there some way I could fix this like maybe try erasing the config data of the controller off Steam? If there’s any other suggestions on what I should do, please don’t hesitate.

I can't help you with your problem, sorry. I use an SN30 pro+. Have you got the latest firmware for it? https://support.8bitdo.com/ Again, sorry for not actually offering you a solution.

I have as a matter of fact and it still didn't help at all.

Can you connect the controller as a Switch controller? There's a bunch of different start up gestures to change what protocol the controller talks (XInput, Dinput, PS4, or Switch).

It's funny but it didn't work when I tried it yesterday, but then abruptly it only now started to work. Perhaps I didn't wait long enough for it to boot into Switch mode lol.

Though the Switch input may work, I'd still like to find out why the Xbox input doesn't.

Maybe it has the same USB VID/PID in each mode and get's opened as the wrong kind of controller?

Hi,
I have the same problem with the SN30 Pro+ : the Switch mode works, but X-input does not and Steam crashes.

Can you trigger the crash and then send the .dmp files from Steam/dumps folder to SteamControllerBugReports@valvesoftware.com?

It's weird but it started working fine as soon as I got a bluetooth adapter. The problem is pretty much gone now ever since I connected via bluetooth.

I only connect the gamepad via bluetooth (not an adapter though)

The crash of steam is "subtle", not a real crashwith an error message, but if I connect the pad in Xinput mode, Steam will just close after a few seconds. Very weird.

And the weird thing is that the same gamepad in X-input works well with my steam link.

I don't get it, I can't trigger the crash anymore when I try to connect the gamepad in Xinput mode (press X and Start to turn on the controller in that mode). Steam does not close anymore.

The controller connects, recognized by windows as "8bit Do Sn30pro+", which is the correct name, and when I right click on it in "devices and printers" (windows 8.1) it appears as "xbox bluetooth gamepad", and everything works well when tested in that panel.

Except steam does not detect it, even if "xbox configuration support" is checked in the settings.

I usually use an xbox 360 that is disconnected at the moment of the test, so it's definitely the SN30 which is detected as "xbox bluetooth gamepad".

the gamepad is recognized by steam when I connect it in Switch mode (press Y and Start to turn on the controller in that mode) and I can use it normally, but not in Xinput mode.

I've checked all the configuration supports (Playstation, Xbox, Switch, Generic) but the controller remains indetected in that mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

And sorry if my english is not that good.

Ok forget about what i wrote before, the crash is back and now in Switch Mode.
I'll keep on testing to try to detect a pattern, otherwise I'll post the dmp file

Hi, me again, how does it work when sending the dmp file, do I explain everything in the mail or nobody will read and they just need the .dmp?

You can just put a link to this forum post for context.
