output joystick as both joystick and buttons at the same time (not mode shifting)
is it possible to have a joystick output as 2 actions at the same time, for instance both "left joystick" (all directions) and "arrow keys"?

i know when remapping buttons you can set "toggle multi-button on", but is there also such an option for outputting as both joystick and (a set of) buttons?

(i want to use it for a game (FlatOut 2) which does work with controller during races, but needs keyboard in menus.)

not exactly what i was looking for, i was wondering if it's also possible to have it output as both at the same time, without doing mode shifting.

If you are okay with losing analog you can map the directions of the joystick to the joystick behaving as buttons and that would work. It's ALWAYS best to use something like action sets and layers to do the pause menu thing. Usually, I make a button HOLD to activate a second set with the menu navigation, sometimes it even opens the menu itself. I will then have whatever cancel the menu key I set both remove the layer, or switch sets, and close the menu. I've only come across a handful of problematic games where it's harder to get this working because of timing and such but generally, it works fine.

I don't have FlatOut 2, but this works in other games:

Style of Input: Directional Pad
Layout: Analog Emulation
Multi-button on: W and up arrow. A and left arrow. D and right arrow. S and down arrow.
