Switch pro controller detected by steam as xbox one controller
so recently i started using a switch pro controller which was working fine in the beginning, but all of the sudden steam started to recognize the controller as xbox one controller and now its not working at all with steam.

I've tried uninstalling the controller from my system and using it again but same issue still happens.

can anyone help me with my 3rd part controller as well?
I noticed the Hori Fighting Commander PS3 and Ps4 are supported, but not the Fighting Commander Switch. Is the lack of support why this controller is being detected as an Xbox 360 controller?

Part of it is lack of support, but Steam officially supports the official controllers, not third-parties or fightsticks. If you have a controller that works best as a Switch controller, you need to define the layout and specify that controller type.

Still, Playstation 4/5 controllers and Nintendo Switch controllers support gyro, wheras fightsticks do NOT have gyro. So, your options are a PS3 controller (which has no gyro support but would most likely match buttom prompts, a generic USB controller, or Xbox 360, the safest support.

I have a similar problem with my PowerA Wireless Controller, its not recognized at all by Steam but it is recognized by the Steam games as an Xbox one

I have a 3rd party pro controller and had the same issue of it being detected as an XBox 360 Controller both by Windows and Steam, but i found a solution:

Assuming your pro controller is detected by both windows and Steam, but as an Xbox 360 controller, in Steam Big picture go to Settings > Controller Settings. Once there select your controller under the "Detected Controllers" and select DEFINE LAYOUT.

Once here, do NOT change anything, and just click save. This will then ask the user if you want to share the layout. More importantly, IT ASKS YOU TO SELECT THE TYPE OF CONTROLLER. Here just select "Nintendo Switch Pro Controller", and you don't need to share so just go ahead and press "No Thanks".

The Controller will now disappear for a second before coming back being recognized as a Nintendo Switch Pro controler, no longer an XBox 360 one. It should stay this way even after disconnecting and reconnecting the controller.

Since the controller is now a Pro Controller don't forget to turn on Switch Pro Configuration Support and Use Nintendo Button Layout.

Honestly there should be a button/option to change the controller type straight away, instead of having this option only available after you save a custom layout through the DEFINE LAYOUT menu

Hi, I recently got a 3rd party pro controller but it keeps getting identified as an Xbox 360 controller if I connect it via USB. Can't figure out how to connect to steam via Bluetooth, it's already connected to my PC via Bluetooth.

This is the controller I got, can you help me?

Sure! Could you post a link to Amazon or elsewhere that I could see it just to confirm the name and a few other things? I'll get the actual controller data from your Steam controller logs presuming you've used the controller recently.

Hi Pollito, it looks like the dongle that you're using has multiple settings on it, are you using it with your PC with the PC setting on the dongle?

Most multi-platform dongles like that get their compatibility from making the wireless controllers that are connected look like other controllers that the system recognizes. It appears that the PC setting on the dongle makes all connected controllers look like Xbox controllers to the system.

Try connecting it to your PC with the dongle set to the Switch setting and see if that gets Steam to see it as a Switch controller.

OMG THIS SAVED ME SO MUCH! Thank you! I was going crazy trying to figure out how to fix this!

My Official Xenoblade 2 Switch Pro Controller shows as a 360 controller, Its plugged in with a cable, no wireless. In big picture mode I'm not seeing a option for changing define layout. It shows the list of controller support options and I have the applicable ones selected but under detected controllers it shows a phantom xbox 360 controller that doesn't exist (I don't own one) a xbox one controller that is plugged in and and my switch controller as a 360 controller. The only options are preferences which allows to name it and rumble preference. It also has Identify and calibrate. I'd very much like to have it be recognized as a switch controller so I can use motion controls for aiming in Monster Hunter Rise.

Edit: I Found out why my switch controller was showing up as a 360 and I had a phantom controller that doesn't exist. My 8bitdo wireless adapter was messing with things. Unplugged it and everything was fine. Forgot it was even plugged in and had no idea could mess with things like this.

I also have the same problem. I recently bought a controller from amazon (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09L5NSML2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and it works totally fine on the switch, no problems at all. I plugged it into my computer and the a and b buttons and y and x buttons were mixed up with each other. I was able to configure the buttons switched but the it switched it with all controllers instead of just the controller that was connected, if there is anyway to get this controller switched to a switch pro controller layout that would be greatly appreciated.

That's a 3rd party controller, a relatively recent one on Amazon in fact. Steam will absolutely support first party Switch Pro controllers, which this is not, so your compatibility is a miss, in this case.

If the face buttons got reversed, it's likely that the PC recognizes it as an Xbox controller. Nothing you can do about that but use an Xbox layout. The store page even says that wireless connections to PC is not supported.

can you fix mine too, I have a legit licensed nintendo pro controller. This 2018.... should be able to plug this and work. IT WORKED 10 damn years ago with other controllers lol. Steam is a joke
I just looked at your Steam logs and it looks like your controller is being properly identified as a Switch controller. What isn't working with your controller?

Mine doesn't work too. It's a Nyko Retro Core Switch Pro Controller

Got problems with the Horipad + Switch controller designed for FPS games, if you're able to fix that as well

I think I'm having issues with my EasySMX new controller too (this one: https://www.amazon.es/dp/B0B2R42J8Q). It is working perfectly but always as an Xbox 360 controller. It is nice, but Steam is not detecting that it has a gyroscope and I can't seem to use it even I've tried configure it in a hundred ways. The gyro option just does not appear in the layout when I try to configure it.

If anybody has an idea about this, I'll be really happy to configure my gyro to use it on my Steam games. Thanks!
