Switch pro controller detected by steam as xbox one controller
so recently i started using a switch pro controller which was working fine in the beginning, but all of the sudden steam started to recognize the controller as xbox one controller and now its not working at all with steam.

I've tried uninstalling the controller from my system and using it again but same issue still happens.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with your Switch Controller. Is it still happening?

Hi, I checked your Steam controller logs and it looks like the controller that you're using is a 3rd party Switch controller, a PDP Faceoff Deluxe Wired Pro Controller. We have to add support on a case by case basis for controllers that we haven't seen before so this controller should actually be identified as a Switch controller rather than as a generic controller (or Xbox controller in your case).

I've updated Steam Input to recognize your controller as a Switch controller and it should be supported in a beta release soon. I'll let you know when we've released a version with the change included.

Hi, we've just released a beta that properly identifies your controller as a Switch variant. If you haven't used a Steam beta release before you can find details for switching to it here:

I just looked at your Steam logs and it looks like your controller is being properly identified as a Switch controller. What isn't working with your controller?

Hello! I'm having the exact same problem, and its also because im using a 3rd party switch pro controller - am I able to also have my controller moved from 360 input to pro controller?

Sure! Could you post a link to Amazon or elsewhere that I could see it just to confirm the name and a few other things? I'll get the actual controller data from your Steam controller logs presuming you've used the controller recently.

Its called an Insten Wireless controller. https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Bluetooth-Compatible-charging/dp/B07CGNL58S
However, my one doesn't have the Insten logo, so it might be an unofficial... 3rd party controller? When you buy stuff off of eBay you can never be too sure :p Thanks again for the help.

Hey DJ_J4, I took a look at your logs and at your link and we actually should have support for your controller as a Switch controller already added in Steam. From your logs it looks like the issue is that you have vJoy installed and it is blocking Steam from reading from the controller directly and is instead making it look like an Xbox controller to Steam.

If you uninstall vJoy your controller should start showing up to Steam as a Switch controller. You should be able to from Programs & Features, if not follow instructions here[vjoystick.sourceforge.net]. You may also want to check out this thread[github.com] if your controller doesn't show up to Steam after uninstalling vJoy as some input remappers install a driver that blocks your controllers from showing up as regular input devices to keep programs from seeing them when they shouldn't.

I took a look at your controller logs and that controller is being recognized as a Switch controller, but like most 3rd-party Switch controllers it doesn't seem to work over USB which Steam thinks it is connected over. If you do have it connected over USB, try connecting it over Bluetooth as that is more widely supported.

I tried connecting in to the Steam Link over bluetooth and while connected just fine, the Link didn't seem to be getting any input from the controller.

Thanks for the quick response, by the way.

I have the same problem! It is frustrating that it recognizes as Xbox controller. I am using JYS Nintendo Switch controller(3rd party).

Here is the link https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller-Vibration-Nintendo-NES/dp/B07G124R7R.

And I am using this JYS adapter to connect this controller to my pc. It can be connected here with wire or wireless but I use bluetooth wireless on this to. Link of the adapter here.

I also did try to do the beta Steam update and still the same. Please help!

Hi Pollito, it looks like the dongle that you're using has multiple settings on it, are you using it with your PC with the PC setting on the dongle?

Most multi-platform dongles like that get their compatibility from making the wireless controllers that are connected look like other controllers that the system recognizes. It appears that the PC setting on the dongle makes all connected controllers look like Xbox controllers to the system.

Try connecting it to your PC with the dongle set to the Switch setting and see if that gets Steam to see it as a Switch controller.

Genius it works! I just changed it from PC mode to N.Switch mode and now it is working fine. Thanks for the help!
