Rubber piece broken from the A button
So the A button just stopped working the other day so I opened it up to see if it was anything easy fixable. Unfortunately a cirle of rubber has broken off the rubber mat that lies underneath the plastic buttons. https://imgur.com/a/ehFAM

Anyone have any clues on how to get a new one/repair it?

You can't unless you have a donor controller. I have never seen this kind of failure in an SC before either, how did you manage this one?

Actually I've found more cases of this while googling for solutions, so I'm def not alone :) I use my SC like 3-5 times a week for an hour playing Rocket League so there isn't any heavy usage involved. I did get it summer 2016 though, so I guess it's a bit old.

Two of my controllers are from Oct 2015 and though they both had grip issues, they have been used substantially heavier. They easily get 60+ hours a week on them between my son, my wife, and myself. The membranes of the face buttons are pretty sturdy too, thicker than many other controllers I have opened in the past. It just strikes me as odd, that's all. Maybe you got a little too into your rocket league? :steammocking:

I see, perhaps Rocket League is harder on the controller then other games since the gameplay contain a lot of fast reaction moments when you don't control the power you press the button with versus say a platformer. Since I bought it for Rocket League and only used it for that game it would make sense, cause I'm sure I didn't press harder then usual.

I only mentioned it because I have a friend who has broken his SC three different ways because of that game. You might be surprised how much harder someone can smash those buttons while in the heat of a match without even realizing it, especially with Rocket League. :comic:

Honestly, would contact support at https://help.steampowered.com/en/ . Worse they can say is they can't help. Now, not sure how legit, but seems they are pretty good in cases with them. https://imgur.com/gallery/ymsja

Try to use GameBoy rubber as a replacement.

I broke my 1st SC's backplate in Rocket League. I was gentle. I swear. :)

Thanks for the replies :) I've contacted Steam Support and they told me to request a replacement controller and send them my broken one, so we'll see where it goes from here!

I know this is an old post but for anyone in the same shoes as me (Steam Support can't replace the device): I can confirm this method works.
You just need to cut the silicone pad a little down to size and the buttons will feel like new.
