Usb Dongle with Samsung TV
So I got everything up and running but when I connect the USB dongle to the adapter for my Samsung tv, the controller doesn't connect. Does the dongle always sit in the computer and not actually get connected to the TV. If thats the case then great somehow the distance is allowing me to play games, but I did keep reading that you are supposed to install the dongle into the TV right? Can someone please elaborate!

Why on earth would you put the dongle in the TV? The dongle requires Steam and Windows to even register.

Does your TV have Steam? Even if it did, does your TV play games or your computer? How would that work if you run a game on your computer and send controller imput to your TV. What is your TV gonna do with that input information?

Logic...

Ok I think you are missing the point here; with the most recent update (to the date of this post) allows you to use your steam controller via bluetooth. You are supposed to pair your controller via Bluetooth, not the dongle, and even then you will get pretty much nothing out of it since it's detected as a mouse and keyboard.

Valve's plan on this is to have an app for smart devices that is the equivalent of big picture, allowing you to set up your controller, and stream your games from your PC to your device.

That wasn't the point nor did the OP mention any app or that it's a smart TV.

And even then what i said still stands. Why would you connect the dongle which requires windows OS and Steam on the TV? What is the purpose of the dongle in the TV?

It's because some Samsung Smart TVs have a Steam Link app built-in and you would just plug the dongle in to use the SC with the Link app. There was another thread here about it recently and it turns out the TVs don't support BT for controllers and must use the dongle instead. Though the OP never mentioned the Link app and not all TVs have it so maybe some clarification would be a good idea.

Yes it is the Samsung smart TV steam link app. In the instructions it states to pair the controller first using the computer and then remove the dongle from the computer and plug it into the TV. This is from the steam website and support pages for the Samsung app made by steam.

I believe my dongle is still only corresponding with it when It is connected to the computer but when I switch it and connected as stated in the instructions to the TV the controller will not connect. Streaming the images/game works fine with or without the dongle but the controller will not work when the dongle is in the TV. So my question is is that the correct set up to only have the dongle connected to the computer And not the TVBecause it doesn’t work on the TV as stated as it should in the set up instructions

No, no it's not. It may work fine but it is not how it is intended to be done. Also, there is no lack of pairing when you unplug the dongle. You can move between PCs all day long and never have to pair again as the controller remembers. There is something specifically wrong with what your TV is doing that is having an adverse effect. Some TVs allow you to disable USB ports or power them off after a few minutes without activity. Check your settings on the TV and then try turning it off and on while the dongle is connected. If not, maybe the Samsung forums could be helpful, find some other people who have the same screen and see if you are doing something different.
