Combine Left and right Joystick or map Joystick Directions
Does anyone know if there is a way to combine the output of the left an right joysticks?

My goal is to turn a twin stick shooter into a single stick shooter, so I look in the direction I move; and have a modifier button for strafing and the like.

You can set the modifier key to either do a mode shift or an action layer to change the analog stick (or either track pad) output from left stick to right stick or vice versa.

You can bind individual joystick directions when you go over to the controller inputs and more carefully move around the joysticks... but you unfortunately loose the analog component and are limited to up/down/left/right (plus the diagonals when say up/right are bound together).

However, you could in theory set the touchpad/stick to dpad mode, double bind left/right sticks, then set the dpad style to "analog emulation" and then mess around with the additional settings until it feels somewhat right. That would give you back full 360 degrees, but it does also depend on how the game handles such rapid inputs.

Thanks for the replies;

Shadowing, I was looking for simultaneous output; but I can mode shift to switch from what Menneth suggests to individual sticks when needed. Or, given there are two trackpads, maybe have each of them be a single stick and have the joystick be combined.

Menneth, that sounds like it should do the trick. I'll give it a try when I get off work tonight.

Thanks again

You can combine them, but you won't get analog input, like Menneth says. Directly binding a stick direction basically amounts to a full deflection of that analog direction. Analog emulation is probably closest to what you want, but my observation every time I tried it was that it results in very unappealing jerky animations as most games don't respond well to rapid input PWM (pulse width modulation, which is how it achieves analog emulation)
