Why Steam intercept wireless DS 4 and HTML5 Gamepad Tester can no longer catch button press ?
Description. Also, poster in the other topic, will copy+paste:
Just bought DS4 + BT stick (not from Sony). It acts weird af when plugged into PC, doing random inputs if you sit away 1m from it and at least piece of paper between gamepad and receiver. Plugged stick into the keyboard - 0 issues. WTF ? I had the same issues with xOne gamepad and another BT stick.

Any advices for DS 4 and steam ? I'd like PS button promts but I guess not gonna happen. A lot of people suggestin to remove mark from PS Config checkbox in Big Picture but game doesnt recognize controller in this way.

Just try and remember it's not always about wireless devices and can also be just metal things nearby. Troubleshooting wireless stuff is just a pain and an exercise in frustration because it's not like most of us have the proper equipment to actually track down the issue objectively when it happens. Not to mention some things are just more sensitive than others so one device might be fine in the same environment while another might not be.

Anyways, good luck! And happy gaming!

I would say you are likely having an EMI issue. However, much more detail would be needed to make any recommendations. Here are the most useful questions you can answer.

  1. Is this a tower PC or a laptop? Maybe a small HTPC build or something like a NUC?
  2. Is the4 BT dongle plugged DIRECTLY into a USB port or is it on an extender of some kind?
  3. What type of USB port are you plugging the dongle into? USB 2.0? 3.0?
  4. Do you use Wifi or a wired network?
  5. How close is the BT dongle to any other wireless devices?
  6. What kind of metal things are nearby?

I know this involves the steam controller but it applies to all wireless devices like BT dongles as well. You should read the section entitled Managing EMI as it could come in handy.

Hey. Thx 4 the reply. I've read the EMI part of your topic.
My BT dongle was plugged directly into the rear USB slot ( tried both 2.0/3.0). Tried front panel. Like I wrote - only air wouldnt interfere between dongle and gamepad connection. I have no idea about usb port in my keyboard. It works and I'm glad af.

I have overclocked intel cpu + oc'd ram. I don't have anything wireless in my room except my phone and DS4. Wired network. My whole PC case made of metal n wood I suppose:

Today I tried the next. I went out from the room with controller and here what was between it and the dongle:
Keyboard with dongle => Edifier R2700 speaker => small wooden wall from my table => glass/wood door and I stood ~2m from the keyboard. It was super fine and 0 issues, no delay.

Worth mention - I had Steam Controller previously. At day 1 I've plugged dongle into PC and forgot about it. At the very rare occasions coneection was lost for 1, max - 2 seconds and then fine again.

I hope everything will be fine but just in case be ready for me knocking in your door :)
Have a nice day and thank you again !
