Steam Controller

Replacement parts purchase
Center of right trackpad does not respond to light touch and I think it's because of wear - this area looks much more glossy
Warranty is expired over a month ago (bought in Nov 2016) so, as I see, I have no choice.
Is it possible to purchase somewhere new or used trackpad AND replace it by myself w/o any troubles?

i wouldnt think general wear of the surface would effect the workings of the touchpad. it might pay to look at the deadzone settings or that area. not long had mine so havent even looked into that as its been fine for me.

Recalibrate the touchpads and this will solve the wear issues. What this won't solve is you finger sticking to the surface of the pad causeing a lot of friction. You can deal with it easily until it becomes way too pronounced, after a little over a year to a year and a half depending on use. The only way to get replacement parts is to buy another already broken controller off the internet, eBay maybe, and cannibalize the controllers.

I would highly recommend you put a protector on the pad. Once the protector wears down you can just peel it off and stick a new one right onto it. https://www.coloredcontrollers.com these are the only ones I would ever use. I prefer the HEX myself but my brother, wife and my son all prefer the carbon. I have five controllers myself and literally, all of them have these protectors on them. Even after the pad surface becomes essentially unusable due to wear, takes a LOT to get to that point, popping on a pair of these Touchprotect pieces of vinyl on will essentially completely revitalize the controller to like new instantly. I had an SC since OCT2015 and sometime mid-2016 it just became too sticky, too much smooth surface and friction, to use. Popped a pair of these on and I will never use my SCs without them anymore. WELL worth the small investment.

I'd really REALLY like it if Valve sold their touchpads like they do the back grips or the dongle.

That would be nice but that does require opening the controller and replacing them from the inside and voiding the warranty, something no company wants a customer to be doing. It makes sense.
Okay let's think that I'll set that fancy stickers. Can they impair existing problem in my case or it will work like brand new touchpad?

For me, I couldn't tell the difference between when it was brand new and I continued to use that same controller for over another year until the grips broke, then I repaired it and it's still working perfectly fine. Of course, the texture will be a little different than it was but IMO it's better with the pad protectors rather than without. They have quite a few option of texture now over what they had so it's up to you to figure out which one you would probably like best. I still recommend doing a calibration right after installing them but I have never once had them impair my controller's functionality at all.
