Can you provide any more information? What OS? Are you using the Steam Beta or the main release? WHEN did you last play SR4 with your Steam controller? What configuration are you using?
I'm running Windows 7. I usually use the Steam Beta, but reverting to the main release did not help. Several months ago, before PS3 controller support was added to Steam, I had no troubles controlling SR4 with my Steam controller. I've tried multiple different configurations, none worked.
It seems to no longer be working, but the inputs do show up on the HUD as I use them.
EDIT: Also start or A to bypass the starting screens wasn't working so that might be why you think it's not working at all?
No, I loaded into my save, with my mouse and keyboard, and still had no responce; I did assume that maybe it had gotten a SC-API update but then why would keyboard nor gamepad input work in the game from the Steam Controller, I also tried to use the recommended config that they, Deep Silver, posted and it showed a lot of blank buttons with nothing bound to them on all sets.
EDIT: I tried again just now, the Deep Silver config now shows buttons assigned in it. I also reset all of my controls back to default. Still can't move or do anything. Keyboard and mouse still works fine, perhaps I need to force an update onto SRIV somehow. I'll try that.
EDIT 2 : Nope, I verified files and then tried again, I was missing 152 files but it still didn't work after redownloading them. I'm going to try a complete uninstall and reinstall.
I'm a little more persistent than that, but thank you so much for your post. Interestingly, for my other controller, I could skip the first couple starting screens, but then it would stop working after that.
I was not persistent enough to try loading the developer's default settings, though. I didn't realize that native Steam Controller support had finally been added to the game, since there were no patch notes about such.
In any case, once I loaded the developer's default, controller inputs were finally recognized, though this is one extremely lazy implementation. The problems I've found include:
- Reload doesn't work. Setting the X button to send an R key keyboard input allows me to reload, but not the named Reload command.
- Vehicle controls don't use the analog function of the triggers by default, only the full press of the button. I know you drive a lot less in SR4, but this is ridiculous.
- There's no way to zoom in/out on the map by default. Setting the touchpad to "rotate" enables zooming, but this is completely unintuitive.
- Aiming is set to joystick emulation by default, and setting it to "camera mouse" doesn't do anything. (Enabling advanced options and choosing "mouse" works, though.)
- The "start" button (right pointing triangle button? What is the name for that?) doesn't do anything in menus by default, even though it's the key used to enter menus.
It's working now, or at least I haven't found anything so completely broken I couldn't work around it. I'll have to post about this in the SR4 discussion forum after I get some sleep. There's a thread there with a lot of people complaining the Steam Controller doesn't work.
@Colorshy Well, not sure if there is anything else I can do or recommend. Maybe your issue is unrelated to the OPs issue?
This did fix some of my controller problems i used to have.
This is why I think they should create another division just for the Steam Controller. It's obvious their method of "hey move to whatever project you feel like" isn't working out for this type of product as input in general, especially good input is absolutely essential to a good experiance with a product like this.
I used x360ce and set the SaintsRowIV.exe file to WinXP ( Service Pack 3 ) compatibility mode and Run as administrator.
