Problem configuring multi-button
My wife just picked me up a controller and so far I'm loving it. Taking some getting used to, but so far I'm really enjoying it. I'm trying to set it up to play 7 days to die but I'm running into a problem setting up multi-button functions. To move whole stacks from your inventory into a container or vise versa it's left shift+left mouse. When I try to config this to work I click "y" to toggle multi-button on, set it up so it says (Left Shift, Left Mouse) but it doesn't work. I'm sure it's just a setting I'm missing but if anyone could help me out here I would really appreciate it.

Didn't play 7 Days To Die since years but I assume you have to hold the left mouse button.
In thise case i would suggest using activators with the activation type "Start press" and toggle function to hold the keys and an activator set to "End press" to release the buttons.

The problem with using the basic multi-button bindings is that they press both of the buttons almost instantly. Many games don't like this and may require you to hold the modifier key, like your shift key for a few frames before you can hit the click. I will say right now I do not play that game but this exact thing is actually VERY common and it just a quirk in the way many game engines work with controls. It's normally not a problem because a human isn't going to press both buttons literally at the same time so they never prepare for that thing to even be possible.

Like Cyborg11 eluded to, you will need to make an activator. Depending on how you want the button to act, there are many different options available to you. I will assume what you want is to have one single tap of a button to send the command 'Hold left shift, press mouse 1, release both'.

  1. clear all of your bindings for the button you already have
  2. When in the binding screen, instead of directly clicking the button, hit select to open the activators menu
  3. make this activator left shift only, regular press should be the default
  4. go to the slider that says something like end delay and give it maybe two ticks up to start with
  5. select add activator and again, leave this regular press
  6. bind this second activator to the mouse click
  7. The other slider, start delay, make this something like a single tick up
  8. TEST

What this configuration will do is it will hold the left shift for a tiny fraction of a second before sending the click command. It will then wait a small amount of time before releasing left shift which may or may not be necessary. This SHOULD give you that single press 'Hold left shift, press mouse 1, release both' that you are looking for.

Unfortunately, every single game is different and this may or may not work so you may have to play around with the delays to find something the game likes and will accept. The pickiest game I have found with exact timing is Overlord. Even then, I was able to do something very similar there and actually played through the entire game using it. You can bind literally anything to this kind of function, thanks to activators. It doesn't even have to be a physical button like in this demonstration I made for Overlord. Just keep in mind that some games are very lenient and just don't care as long as the two buttons are pressed at some point at the same time and others are so specific in what they allow it becomes a hunt and peck to see if you can find the exact correct settings it will like.

Great to hear! Never hesitate to post a thread here if you need anything else, even if it seems silly. We do what we can because we have all been there and the SC can be a bit overwhelming. Not like there is any documentation on it either. :steammocking:
