if you used any part from an old or new revision it'd all work the same
There is no model number difference but I got a controller only about 2-3 months ago for my wife. This controller had a distinctly different texture on the pads and the cross shape on the left pad as a bit shallower. See, my first controller was a rev9 I got OCT2015 and my second controller, for my now 4-year-old son, is a rev 10 bought in DEC of that same year. Physically, they are identical and you would never be able to tell they are different at all aside from opening them up and investigating the board. The newest controller for my wife, the differences are so insanely minor you would be forgiven if you just couldn't tell. Only through direct comparison and long hours spent with all of them could you even notice it at all.
I also noticed that the new controller had much tighter switches for the pads, sticks, bumpers and ABXY buttons and at first I thought it was actually different. Then I realized that my oldest controller has the softest press and the second controller was somewhere in the middle. On a more intense investigation, I concluded that this was just those switches being broken in. My brother has his own OCT2015 rev9 controller but he has used it less than my wife has used hers in all this time and his switches felt about the same.
I just weighed all 3 controllers with a scale that has .01g accuracy. All three controllers were weighed WITHOUT batteries of any kind. The results may not be 100% accurate since I do use those colored controllers pad protectors on all three and there are some daniel tiger stickers on two of them. The oldest and the second controller are the ones with the stickers while the newest only has the pad protectors.
rev9 Oldest controller 234.12g
rev10 Second controller 234.37g
rev10 Newest controller 232.89g
