Hello!

Happy October!

Autumn is my favorite time of year for quite a few reasons. Namely, the weather and the changing of the leaf colors. Plus, The Great Coffee Caper takes place in autumn! What a lovely coincidence! We hope you all are having a wonderful season so far!

There are a few announcements. So, without further ado, let's get started:

Development Update (short)

The next update for the demo is still progressing, albeit at a slow pace. I am in school at the moment, and my work for it has taken up almost all of my time these past few weeks.

This update will be much bigger than the previous two as I hope to move away from the demo so that development on the full game can begin.

We greatly appreciate your patience. Thank you!

The GameMaker Awards

If you don't know, the engine that The Great Coffee Caper is made in is GameMaker. Every year, they give out awards for various categories (Best Game, Most Anticipated, etc). Nominations are open until October 16.

Jacob and I noticed that our spot for "Most Anticipated Game" trophies is noticeably barren.....

This is quite the predicament and we can't possibly go into 2026 with this empty space! I trust that you people will know what to do during this time...

Music

Along with the changing of the seasons, comes a new Steam Sale! During the Steam Autumn Sale you can buy the demo soundtrack for The Great Coffee Caper at a discounted price on both Steam and Bandcamp!

Final Thoughts

I don't have all too many final thoughts for this time. We both love watching the YouTube videos that have been posted of people playing the demo. It's so cool to see people experience something for the first time that you've worked so hard on. Laughing at the jokes you wrote, being surprised by the things you've grown numb to, watching a mouse walk over water. Yeah...Things like that....

Truly, the Lord Jesus has blessed us so. And we are so glad to see everyone experience the world we've crafted over the past 2 years (roughly).

Is the Cover AI Generated?

Generative AI is a scourge on society. I can't shake the suspicion I have specifically coming from the mouse in the cover. A lot of AI generated images look like it has the same lighting and shading as is shown on the mouse, the sort of piss filter as I've heard it referred to. It also doesn't help that of the AI generated rodents I've seen it they don't look very far off from the one shown in the cover page of the game. Version 1.02:

A certain attack of the Big Spark battle has been adjusted
The Big Spark's health has been increased
The Spark Glass's hitbox has been shrunk
Flavor text has been added to Cup O Joe
Fixed interactions outside of Cup O Joe
Charlie no longer walks on water, he now walks on grass like any other self-respecting mouse
A new, more legible font option has been added
You can now choose between "Classic" font and "Clean" font when you first start up the game

Never fear! More changes are in the works!

Planned changes:

Big changes to regular battles to make them more difficult and intriguing
Ability to change font in settings menu
Small bug fixes

The Great Coffee Caper Demo - 1.01 - Update

Hello!
Thank you to everyone who has played the demo! We love seeing you all are enjoying it!

There are a number of changes and small improvements to the demo to make your experience more enjoyable. These are small bug fixes that will make your gameplay more consistent.

Version 1.01:

Fixed an issue where you could leave Clawdine's house before getting the hammer
The game now autosaves after certain cutscenes
Fixed certain sprites not displaying properly
Hootsworth now moves to a proper location in the closet
Clawdine will stop being rude when you talk to her
Fixed an issue where certain interactions would commence when not intended
Removed the ability to access debug features
Fixed typos in dialogue
Certain interactions should be easier to commence
Added furniture in Charlie's room

Never fear! More changes are in the works!

Planned changes:

A new and more legible, font option. You will have the option to choose between the current "Classic" font and the new "Clean" font
A certain attack of the Big Spark is going to be tweaked to be more fair
Charlie's movements will be more consistent
- no more walking on water :(

Demo crash

Demo feedback

Just finished the Demo and I really like the GBA Game style, really feels nostalgic and cute, the jokes are pretty funny and in general the vibe is good. My only problem was that while playing in 2 occasions I could not press Z on top of a spark so I needed to wait till the game end, start again and just then I could completed. This happened while I was looking for my hat and looking for clues in the store. Really excited for the launch of the game.

[BUG REPORT]

Found a bug in the room of the coffee shop where you do multiple investigations. I had just investigated the first spark in the room (on the right side by the barrels) and was searching for the next. I walked to the entrance of the door while in 'investigation mode' and got stuck on the tile just in front of the exit. I couldn't tell, but I think it was the same tile that Charlie was standing on; I hadn't realized since I was in investigation mode. I was not able to free myself in any direction and ended u...

Demo Review

For starters, I was fairly excited for this game because the cute animal detective game RPG is my exact niche. I finally saw the demo released and played it as soon as I could. Pros: The characters are very cute and lines are interesting. I admire the artstyle and personalities of those involved. The story line is also intriguing to me. Overall very nice game.
