Anyone remember Phantasia?
Fantastic game. What I wouldn't give for it to be remade. Anyway - does anyone remember when that game came out? It was beyond its time. The combat was something we didn't really see until 10+ years later in other games.

The last/best remake was for PS One. Not sure if Bandai would spend the extra money and effort to remake it again for current generation. I wouldnt be surprise, at minimum, if they decide to rerelease ToP again, it would just a port with tweaks or emulated to run on current hardware.

TOP was the only one of the series I could actually get into. it was back in... '94? I think? on the SNES? The newer ones just don't seem to be able to top that game.

I got it on GBA as a kid, but never managed to find my way through Dhaos' castle in the past I think? I made a new save a while back, but stopped playing again when the game crashed twice in a row at the Gnome cave. I should really finish it. Dunno to continue the new save to refresh my memory or continue the Dhaos castle save...

I don't care about other versions, I first want to finish the GBA one I have. :)

I'm surprised they didn't go for a full-blown HD remake of the game when the PS3/360 were at their prime.

I own the GBA version and played the PSX one! I'm told that gameplay-wise the newest ToPX and NDX versions are the best, but I hear that there is storyline weirdness in those. Haven't played them myself.

It's been released like five times in Japan and only twice in the US (if you count the iOS port), both with mediocre outsourced translations, so to be honest I'd be happy with literally anything at this point...

I liked some things in this game, but party was completely useless without any attacks. I gave up after 3 or 4 hours when I got to the mountain with miasma. I just couldn't bare encounter rate each few steps, it was sick, I finished all SNES Final Fantasy games and some other jrpg's from that era, but Phantasia was unplayable with all those encounters and any possibility to run from battle faster than just waiting few seconds on the edge of the screen. Halved encounters rate and it would be pretty nice game.

I still think we need Tales of Phantasia R with Full HD sprites and a ravamped 2d battle system.

Well Absolute 0 is translating Tales of Phantasia X but they have a long way to go. It would be great to have an official release in PC though.

Indignation! I remember it, played it in SNES, Chester was very cool!

I'm not an huge fan of the series but Phantasia is among my favorite games, I played Abyss as well and couldn't get into it, it just pales in comparison to Phantasia and I couldn't get into it. I will get this game because I really miss Phantasia, I hope I will enjoy this and Symphonia, I'm not expecting them to be as good as Phantasia though.

I'm currently playing the fan translation for the ps1 version. Love the game. I wouldn't mind seeing a HD remake so long as they don't mess with the combat system too much. I just wish time didn't freeze every time an offensive spell is cast. I move a few step then jump then get frozen in mid air for a spell then start to swing and am frozen in the air again for another spell. I land and try to use an arte and guess what... nope waiting on another spell animation. Also they need to leave the voices alone I love its voice acting.

I don't even think the fandom even likes ToP anymore. It's just seen as that outdated installment that get remakes no one asks for, the character being so one dimensional, story being nothing special, and an outdated battle system.

Not to mention, this game makes me feel like I'm stuck in the past because I can't admit it's an outdated game and still show favorism towards it.

I've got Phantasia (GBA), and I can't wait to try it even if the translation is supposed to be mediocre and the voice acting so-bad-it's-good.

Having played a few Tales games, Phantasia still remains not only my favorite from the series, but my favorite game overall as well.
