Report a translation problem
Since I would imagine they'd disable subtitle settings instantly as you put the audio in japanese if they haven't done the translations between those two languages but instead are using two different sets of narrations. (aka. the consistency in chat wouldn't hold up).
I.e:
- Japanese audio = No subtitles
- English Audio = Subtitles in: English (+ translations from English text to [other languages])
In the above example we would have two different scripts, and thus not being able to get english text for another audio. I'd hate a situation where I have Japanese audio enabled but the subtitles are direct copy from English audio/script instead of a translation from current audio. This would be catastrophic if they use different script and wording for each audio.
edit: Would be awesome to get an official answer for this.
People always ask for JPN audio and since Symphonia, they finally deliver (like so many other dev/pub now). Pretty much the only dev dragging its feet now is Atlus with XSEED occasionally.
Well i'm not gonna waste 70 USD just because some "Aisuga" tells me it's fine :) We need more info regarding this question and thats why official answer would be nice.. and I bet im not only the only one pondering this question.
I dont think they would have added that option. There is a reason why this game is not sold in Japan since it has no japanese text and would only mean you would play this with no text if that were the case
There is no info, because there's no need for it.. You must be new to RPG or something. But fair enough, wait.
He can also check the gameplay demos or something and see if they have it in JP audio
Promotional footage for localized games is always with English audio though, unless they specifically want to show off dual audio support. Not sure if there's such a video.

I like how they say the Eng dub is really nice. I hear that ALL the time, but everytime I wish they'd have offered Japanese. Graces F and Xillia were especially cringe worthy barring a few characters like Alvin for example that genuinely sounded fine IMO.
That's great the Eng only days are finally over, giving people the choice is always the best solution!
