How's the story without playing other Tales Of games?
I'm very interested in this game and I will buy it soon I think.
I'm just wondering whether or not I can experience the whole epicness without knowing any other Tales Of games.
What do you think or know?

Story's independent of all other games in the series (as is the case for all non-sequel Tales games), so it doesn't matter if you've played the other entries or not.

The story isn't connected to other Tales of games series unless it says its sequel this one doesn't even have that.

You won't lose nothing by playing this one first.

Most tales games don't connect to eachother with the exception of Tales of Destiny and the Japan-Only Destiny 2 (PS2 Ver.) As well as Dawn of the New World.

That said, if you want to experience the longest tales game, you need to play Abyss (on PS2, not 3DS for best experience.) Also, if you've played Legend of Legaia, Zestiria may seem familiar.

If you want to experience one of the first Tales games with an "f arc" styled end-story, you need to play "Tales of Legendia" which is a pretty long game, but because of the massive amount of backtracking and forced walking... it's the main reason it is so long.

The Tales of games all have their own planet, lore and characters and such. The only thing they share is some of the monsters and character skills.
The story progression reminded me of Tales of Eternia, which is my all-time favorite Tales game. Although I can't tell you how as it'll contain spoilers.

Well, since you haven't played any Tales games and ToZ will be your very first, you'll be fine as you don't have the "measuring stick" to compare other Tales games (unless you are reading reviews or watching gameplay videos of other Tales games).

Once you're done playing ToZ and you're interested in playing other Tales games, then ToZ will be your measuring stick.

I've only played Tales of Vesperia which I felt had a better story but not by to much. This one is still pretty good.

Honestly, you should play the other ones as this one has good features and bad ones. It has basically no romance in the story (other than hints at Alisha but that went down pretty bad) and the plot isn't as good as some of the other ones. That being said, it has improved at some other parts that make it interesting (like some of the unique mechanics).
This one is far from my favourite in the Tales Of series but it is a great JRPG (especially on PC which lacks it).

Long story short, the Tales Of games are different and depending on your taste, some will be a hit and others will be a miss.

The exceptions are Dawn of a New World and Tales Of Tempest which are both trash.
