So what does mastering artes actually do? make it more powerful?cheaper?change in any way?and about how many times to a need to spam these to get it maxed, i got my waterfall arte (very first hidden arte) to 1 star and a little more by getting it to 800 uses...so I can only imagine it sucks quite a bit to actually max them

They get cheaper and you also get more Sk(?) overall , its the ressource you need in order to perform attacks. Every maxed art gives you a bonus, so you basicly wanna use all of them till perfection. Think with around 2-2,5k uses one of mine has nearly 3 stars now.

For every star you get, the skill itself's SC cost goes down, and the amount of BG you get at the start of battle goes up(?).
