Once you get all Weaponsmiths to 3 Stars you can do a Side Quest to unlock Mithril Equipment. It is fairly powerful, but there really isn't a best weapon or armor in this game, no Devil Arms sadly. :(

You will have to probably mess around with skill combinations with fusion to find a combination that works for you.

I've found that mobs drop better gear than what stores sale. Higher difficulty drops better gear, higher level mobs also drop better gear, getting yourself in danger mode increases the level of mobs which drops even better gear.

Setting the game to the highest difficulty and getting 2+ mobs to trigger a fight when facing the highest level mobs you can find results in some nice gear. I find it best to find a camp near a zone with 3+ mobs to trigger danger as you can armatize non stop on intense difficulty. Chaos might just need 2 mob danger trigger for unlimited armitization.
