Earth temple

so i got to the earth temple and when i followed the boss to the first room and the boss was supposed to run away i used the water skill and walked up to it from its side and killed it in the first room..... did that mess anything up?

Yes..until you "insult" edna by sneaking up on him...using a certain map action (it should
be obvious which one, and why I say "insult").

I did the same. It seemed super-obvious that you were meant to do that too! I think the game thought it was trying to be subtle.

The annoying thing is there's apparently a story about kids and stuff and you totally miss it all except the characters magically knowing about them. The whole temple just feels like a narrative screw-up really.
