Berseria is a Prequel to Zesteria
Noooooooooooooooooooooooo.

http://www.siliconera.com/2015/12/22/tales-of-berseria-takes-place-in-the-past-world-of-tales-of-zestiria/

I did not enjoy the writing and overall story of Zesteria, because none of it was well written.

My hopes for the new game are dashed already.

I'll buy it, it's tales of, and it's preorder bonus is probably another tales game, but still. This is very sad news.

I'm very surprised they decided to make the next game a sequel to this one.
The next won't be a sequel (continuation) It will be a prequel (before Zestiria's world) It will be set in an "ancient past"....

Thanks. I just fixed my post (I'd actually meant to write prequel in the first place). My point still stands. Making the next game in any way connected to a game a large number of fans disliked seems like a risk.

Just ignore those large number of people hating it. There are still a large number people who love the game (including me) When I I say love, I don't mean like saying the game is perfect. I mean, at least the "likes" are more than the "complaints". And despite the a lot of "hate" you mentioned, Zestiria on steam got 90% positive reviews. o.O

The real question is, will its engine still be tied to LOW FPS?

There is an 80% chance that it's not. All trailers of the game we've seen so far have been 60 FPS. They weren't just rendered at 60 FPS, the gameplay was actually 60 FPS.

Since the game is coming out for PS3 (Japan), PS4, and PC, I think the PS3 version will be capped at 30 to prevent it from becoming a toaster.

Unlike Zestiria apperently Bersaria is actually planned for PS4 and PC from start while Zestiria was not hence the 30 FPS so I think you are right Bersaria should be on PC and PS4 60 FPS this time.

Why do people say Zesteria's writing is awful? I think this game has a wonderful story to complement its amazingly fun combat. Why are you people looking for Shakespeare-tier writing in a JRPG? The story does its job AND MORE. You shouldn't feel the need to ask for more than that.

Have you played Symphonia, Graces f, Abyss, or Vesperia? The difference between what is presented in those games and what we got in Zestiria is striking. Tales can be so much more story-wise and it has been better in the past.

yea I love the story for zestiria as well, I find it fascinating

Eh, personally I liked Zestiria. But perhaps it's because it's being presented in a much more improved animation than the previous games. It's a giant leap from Xillia which had pretty good animations to begin with.

Definitely agree with this. The writing in Zestiria isn't terrible by any stretch, but it doesn't feel like the same quality you got in Symphonia and Graces.

Zestiria is easily the weakest of the Tales games that I've played, far and away, but it has little to do with plot. I don't play Tales for the plot; Tales for me is about multiplayer beat-em-up with a campaign and RPG progression, and Zestiria miserably fails here. The abysmal battle camera and the armatization system crippling multiplayer are my chief complaints, the former more than enough for me to write off the game entirely. It just makes me want to boot up the PS3 and play Graces f.

Berseria looks to be doing away with armatization, and they've billed an improved camera as a selling point. Optimistic about this one.

Personally I think it's more of a questing game than anything similar to MMOs. Which I'm used to since I'm an MMO gamer.

Found a weird tidbit on the Bandai site
https://www.bandainamcoent.eu/product/tales-of-berseria/playstation-4

Down in features.

"Embody the first solo heroine of the series."

So, most of the story she'll be alone?
