As for the second one: It's because at the time when he armatized with Lailah he wasn't yet used to the whole shepherd powers etc. and he didn't really know much about Lailah at that point while on the other hand he grew up side by side pretty much with Mikleo. It's pretty much a matter of affinity towards the power overall and maybe a bit because of the person he armatized with.
