I honestly wouldn't recommend this game if its your first time going into the series. This game has a poor camera angle, confusing fusing system, poor partner AI, and a poor story. While the last point is subjective there are multiple points in the story where the game introduces subplots that don't go anywhere until they remember that said subplot existed and then they rush to complete it.

The story is messy. If you are looking for newer releases in the series Xillia 1 and Graces F for the PS3 are pretty good. Vespiria if you got a 360. If you can handle an antiquated combat system Symponia for the PC with the mod is great.

I think it has an okay story, the camera is usually fine though it does freak out sometimes near walls, and I enjoy the core 'gimmick' the characters of the game have.

The equipment system is among the most confusing of any game I have played, ever, if not the most confusing. Thankfully on lower difficulties you don't have to worry about it too much.

If you can embrace the depth I think the battle system is great. It's about time they stop using a separate screen for battles, even if the camera isn't perfect. It can be very complicated. For example you have combos and weaknesses you use against the enemy earlier in the combo apply to the entire combo. Likewise if you use something the enemy is strong against it throws off the entire combo too. There are also status ailments some abilities have. Because the combat is so fast paced, there is some real depth to the combat system when you start to learn it, even though for the first few hours it may feel like a simple hack and slash.

I'd watch some early game videos. Personally I like it though I got distracted and didn't finish it yet. Notably most games I've played in this series have music I'd call "average" or "okay." This game actually has a few tracks I really love. Music is perhaps the only remarkable thing this game does when it comes to other games in the series.

Don't expect creative plot twists. Though I didn't beat it yet, I hear the game is a pretty straightforward "good guys vs. evil guys" tale. That actually annoys me since I like stories to be a little more complicated, but it works for what it is. I like some of the characters while others annoy me, but I do not hate them.

The game is good. Plot lacks a bit. And yes, the game is pretty straight forward. Music is a few of the only good things in the game. But fun skits and characters. Too bad no specific heroine.... world is quite beautiful. It is quite bright and becomes a little darker as you keep playing.... the story is simple, not as exciting as other tales though. The rest is all what the above comment said.

But anyway, the game is good and okay. It is not as strong as some other titles, but it is not total crap.

I will never understand the fixation on the heroine, to the point people feel the need to spoil one of the few plot twists.

Why would you get all DLCs?
Everything except Alisha's story is just fluff (or things you can eventually get by actually
playing the game), and unneeded..and even Alisha's story..

It is an enjoyable game, but I also think it is "OK" , but that is my personal opinion. I am not a fan of the corridor based dungeon approach this game has, I can't speak for other Tales games but the dungeon parts are easily the most repetitive things I have played in a long time. I do enjoy the combat even if it goes right over my head sometimes, and the story can be fun too. I'd say it is worth it for this sale price, but I kind of regret paying the full price for it in hindsight.

"Says this story is a mess, recommends Graces F". LMAO

Graces F had pretty good combat and that alone I would recommend it on. It was fun. Yea the story is pretty cringe worthy but at the end of the day the combat was decent.

Zestiria's combat just on the camera and AI alone makes it vastly inferior to Graces and this isn't getting into the fact that the arts list is woefully subpar.

Both stories are on a level of bad but at least for Graces it entered the realm of its so bad its good while Zestiria it was just bad.

Again my opinions but the point still remains I wouldn't recommend this game as the first game to someone who wants to enter the series.

The story is told poorly, if you take the time to get into it and learn it all, you can really appreciate it. Though the combat is great second to graces f. Though what makes this game second place is the Terrible ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ difficulty curves. If you dont grind out best gear you wont be able to touch the harder difficulties. Hell, with maxed stats you still will die at any moment to the bosses on chaos.

Dismissing most people who give out negative opinions of a game as trolls is nonsense. People complain about this game in the series because ,at least in my case, we want them to do better in the future because as a fan we have seen better games and we know they can do better.

The feedback in this game has already made its way into the next game of the series where they are specifically implementing camera controls in battle and a more customizable battle setup. The story itself is something that we will have to playthrough to see if they are able to tell in a way that isn't messy.

I loved Graces f's story. True it gets silly with the FRIENDSHIP!!!!11111 theme being hammered to comically over-the-top levels but the story and setting itself I found to be quite creative. I like stories and characters with more nuance, while I keep seeing people warn this game is pretty much what it says at the start without much of any big revelations about the villain etc. I'm not bashing Zestiria's story. I just appreciate the actual plot of Graces f even if it's hilariously cheesy in execution.

Isn't that the entire point of higher difficulties?

Well considering my initial point was and still is that this probably isn't the best game to begin the series on, I offered my own opinion as to why and responded to your initial statement about the people with criticism towards the story “[most of them] are just trolls”. Seeing as we might be at an impasse I do not agree with your statements that “ if your truly a tales fan you would appreciate all tales series dont be a btch.” and “just be grateful that they release this game on pc.” but I still respect your opinions.
