The story is messy. If you are looking for newer releases in the series Xillia 1 and Graces F for the PS3 are pretty good. Vespiria if you got a 360. If you can handle an antiquated combat system Symponia for the PC with the mod is great.
The equipment system is among the most confusing of any game I have played, ever, if not the most confusing. Thankfully on lower difficulties you don't have to worry about it too much.
If you can embrace the depth I think the battle system is great. It's about time they stop using a separate screen for battles, even if the camera isn't perfect. It can be very complicated. For example you have combos and weaknesses you use against the enemy earlier in the combo apply to the entire combo. Likewise if you use something the enemy is strong against it throws off the entire combo too. There are also status ailments some abilities have. Because the combat is so fast paced, there is some real depth to the combat system when you start to learn it, even though for the first few hours it may feel like a simple hack and slash.
I'd watch some early game videos. Personally I like it though I got distracted and didn't finish it yet. Notably most games I've played in this series have music I'd call "average" or "okay." This game actually has a few tracks I really love. Music is perhaps the only remarkable thing this game does when it comes to other games in the series.
Don't expect creative plot twists. Though I didn't beat it yet, I hear the game is a pretty straightforward "good guys vs. evil guys" tale. That actually annoys me since I like stories to be a little more complicated, but it works for what it is. I like some of the characters while others annoy me, but I do not hate them.
But anyway, the game is good and okay. It is not as strong as some other titles, but it is not total crap.
Everything except Alisha's story is just fluff (or things you can eventually get by actually
playing the game), and unneeded..and even Alisha's story..
Graces F had pretty good combat and that alone I would recommend it on. It was fun. Yea the story is pretty cringe worthy but at the end of the day the combat was decent.
Zestiria's combat just on the camera and AI alone makes it vastly inferior to Graces and this isn't getting into the fact that the arts list is woefully subpar.
Both stories are on a level of bad but at least for Graces it entered the realm of its so bad its good while Zestiria it was just bad.
Again my opinions but the point still remains I wouldn't recommend this game as the first game to someone who wants to enter the series.
Dismissing most people who give out negative opinions of a game as trolls is nonsense. People complain about this game in the series because ,at least in my case, we want them to do better in the future because as a fan we have seen better games and we know they can do better.
The feedback in this game has already made its way into the next game of the series where they are specifically implementing camera controls in battle and a more customizable battle setup. The story itself is something that we will have to playthrough to see if they are able to tell in a way that isn't messy.
lmao why put negative here the person asking if the game if its good lmao and you already telling him not to buy go to support and offer your words and wisdom not here. because some of us aint got no problem with the game i dont know about you lmao. just be grateful that they release this game on pc.
Isn't that the entire point of higher difficulties?
Well considering my initial point was and still is that this probably isn't the best game to begin the series on, I offered my own opinion as to why and responded to your initial statement about the people with criticism towards the story “[most of them] are just trolls”. Seeing as we might be at an impasse I do not agree with your statements that “ if your truly a tales fan you would appreciate all tales series dont be a btch.” and “just be grateful that they release this game on pc.” but I still respect your opinions.
