Help. How to do combos?
I'm only 7 hours in but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do combos like the following video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydNf0UD7jfQ

The video is probably showing some very end game stuff but all I have been doing was B B B, B B B, B B B A, A A A...

I googled for tutorials but everything came up super vague to me. Could someone treat me like a dumb gamer and teach me the basic please?

They are part of certain battle actions. Maybe you haven't unlock it, or you unlocked it but you didn't notice... It is the one with description like, "hold R2/RT to use 1BG after the 3rd attack to regain 50 SC". Basically, attack 3 times (no matter physical attacks or spells) and hold that button and it will cost 1 of your BG and to let you continue to Chain attacks. Also, you can continue to chain combos right after you used a mystic arte.

He 's also using spell cancelling on seraphs, and probably has some ekseed or eternity with lucifir.

The best way to do combos is to use skill fusion and blast gauges. some of this stuff is kind of unknown, but here's what I do.

1. Get 4 of the same skill on an equipment set, and do this 4 times. 4 stacks of 4. Its not impossible, but this gives you +4 combos, turning your 4 hit to an 8 hit max chain on your own.

2, There's a battle action called Blast chain that says on every 3rd hit in a 4 hit combo, you can hold RT to give yourself +50 SC and reset your attack string back to the first hit and keep going. This can be activated on hit 3 or hit 7, giving you the SC to continue your combo and keep it going.

3. Learn to spell cancel. Spell cancelling is hitting the Arte button as a seraph to start charging a spell, but the moment it starts to charge up, tap forward to dash out of it. This resets your animation and allows you to keep attacking, and leads to faster recovery from your own attacks. Some spells that have lingering damage, like spells that knock enemies into the air, can be spell canceled into combos.

4. There's a battle action that turns your forward dash into an attack. It increases the amount of SC your foward dash uses, but it makes it so the forward dash actually adds a hit to your combo and deals hitstun. This is almost necessary as some combos knock the enemy too far away from you to keep hitting them, so you need to dash forward to keep the combo going.

5. Always start with an attack that the enemy is weak against. This makes it so every other attack is not "resisted" even if it's an element that the opponent normally resists. You'll get red damage numbers instead of white or slightly blue.

If you're wanting combos with a party

1. In battle, hit Y to bring up the menu. Select Strategy. Select your characters to go to Close Combat and "Go All Out"

2. In combat, push UP on the strategy button, for me because I used a controller it was the left stick. Pusing up sets your allies to "Focus attacks" on your target. Then push right. This sets your allies to "Charge forward"

3. Don't go all out yourself. you need to be the "Bridge" between your allies combos. Watch when they attack, and just as THEIR combo finishes, start your combo.

4. Don't do the same attack over and over. Enemies build up a "Resistance" to the same attack. If you keep spamming the same ones, the enemy will gain combo immunity, you have to mix it up.

The Blue Fox I think the person in the video is using a skill to hold down the art button to initate the 2nd tier arte for example and a bad example: demon fang ----HOLD BUTTON---> double demon fang.

Yes, there's a battle action for that.

The only problem is that the progression is linear, Skill A ONLY goes into Skill B which ONLY goes into Skill C. It makes it hard to mix it up. It's still good to have though.

Eventually you'll discover which skills give you the proper hit stun or launch that allow you to enough time to reset your attack animations.

I took a look at Sorey's Combo and broke it down into a step by step of everything he does:

1. True fang
2. Tiger blade
3. Earth Dragon Fang
4. Starfall
5. Severing wind ->
6. Rending Gale ->
7. Runic Circle
CHAIN BLAST
1. Heavenly Torrent ->
2. Lions Howl ->
3. Beast Thunder
CHAIN BLAST
1. Sonic Thrust ->
2. Crimson Edge
3. Trihawk
4. Shatterfang ->
5. Shadowshock ->
6. Cantering Flames
BLOWBACK BLAST
1. Assault Dash
2. Forward Dash
3. Forward Dash
4. Searing Gale
WATER ARMATIZATION
1. Blue flurry
2. Ocean Blitz
3. Azure Assault
4. Maelstrom
5. Trinity Arrow
MYSTiC ARTE

Something to note from this. he has AT LEAST Combo +3 because he goes up to seven hits without bursting. He also has maybe 40% faster spell time because Maelstrom and Trinity arrow come out almost instantly.

You'll also notice he doesn't use the same move twice. Because if he does, there's a chance it will break his combo.

So, here's a bit of WHY he's doing what he's doing.

At the first 7 attacks he uses 1bg to use a Chain blast. This allows him to reset back to his first hit and keep his combo going. Once he does, he picks up the enemy back into a combo with heavenly torrent, because Heavenly torrent has a slight knockup. It doesn't work on this enemy, but it keeps his combo going.

Once he uses Beast thunder, the enemy is actually too far away from him to keep his combo going, so he has to use another Chain Burst give himself +50 SC and to cut the distance and there's enough stun on it to move him close enough so he can re-capture the enemy with a dashing sonic thrust.

He doesn't take sonic thrust all the way to Raging winds though, because Raging winds will dash through the enemy and he'd be too far away to continue the combo, so he goes into Trihawk and then proceeds to give the enemy another series of Artes.

The reason he uses Blowback Blast is because he's on hit #6, which is the same as hit #2. It gives the enemy a hard knockdown, but it causes him to have to dash forward to close the distance. He dashes THREE Times on purpose, because the enemy is on the ground at this point in a hard knockdown state. As soon as the enemy starts getting up he's going to be immune to combo, So he uses the 4th attack Searing Gale which has the extra effect of Lifting Downed Enemies.

While the enemy is lifted, he armatizes and unleashes a simple 3 hit combo into 2 different spells and ends with a mystic arte.

Use blasts to extend your combo, Use knockdowns followed by knock ups, and don't use the same move twice.

Taking a look at Rose's, it's

1. Assault Dash
2. Cleaver
3. Shining Mirror
4. Forward Dash
5. Rising Phoenix
6. Shining Mirror->
7. Burrowing Dragon
CHAIN BLAST
1. Driving Thorn
2. Fulgrant Cross
3. Arclight
4. Esper Dream
5. Fang Blade->
6. Lightning Tiger Blade
MYSTIC ARTE

You can also tell she has Combo+3 because she again goes to 7 hits without stopping. Three skills she has mapped are:

Rising Phoenix
Shining Mirror
Fang Blade

You can tell because she uses Rising Phoenix without the first two in the chain, and she uses Shining mirror without Sleeping Dragon.

Something interesting about this is that she STARTS with an assault dash. I'm not sure why, maybe its because this way the assault dash doesn't happen when she's dashing through her Shining Mirror. She also uses Shining mirror twice, which has a small chance of breaking her combo, but I guess it's so she can use Burrowing Dragon to knock the enemy up again.

Also something that I personally find clever and awesome, is that after using Burrowing dragon to create TWO bombs, she uses Chain Blast. Rose's Chain blast apparently dashes through the enemy, putting you on the opposite side. She then is able to knock the enemy into the SECOND bomb she planted earlier!

The reason she didn't follow Lightning Tiger Blade into Blazing Tempest is because she was at 25 SC and needed 30 to continue on to the other attack. So she went straight into Mystic Arte
