What is with this area map thing and Turtlez?
I've fixed the second town and still can't figure this out. The first Turtlez I saw is somewhere in the Ladylake sewer (I think?) and I cannot find him. I thought I bought a map off of him but I still can't get it to appear so I know where the F i am. The second Turtlez complained that I didn't have enough Gald and straight up vanished and I didn't catch what he said so I have no clue what the F to do.

GameFAQs do not offer a comprehensive explanation (in one of them the word "turtlez" appears six times!) and I'm not restarting this save file over a silly game design idea that belongs in a toilet. Can someone idiot-proof this for me please? I have crayons. :)

That's an ironic coincidence. XD
By the way, Holding R1 will pop up the "next objective". Pressing L1 is to reset camera during map travels. Pressing R3 (right stick) will bring up the World Map.

I think you will get the map when you meet the turtlez in the upcoming towns/cities. Don't worry about it for now. It is not missable.

I've bought a couple more maps since then, still can't use them. Just bought the map from the Turtlez in Pendrago. There is no button on my Xbox 360 controller that brings up an actual area map like any of the previous Tales games. Clicking rightstick brings up pointless area information, not a true view of the area I'm in. This is an important feature. If it's not missable, when is it going to be usable? I refuse to believe they made this game without it. I also don't get how more people aren't having this problem. It's a huge problem. I would be so lost without guides to refer to just to figure out where I am and what I need to do. Starting to think this is a bug. There's a message thread on GameFAQs that says I need to press another button after clicking rightstick, but none of the other buttons do anything besides move around in the lists that I have no use for.

I fell asleep with the controller in-hand. It landed on L2 and brought up the map, which is the first thing I saw when I woke up.

So the solution is: press L2 (the left trigger button INSTEAD of pressing rightstick). Simple enough, but now I'm curious why nobody spoke up about it.

Information like this is lacking on every forum I went to, including the GameFAQ message string where someone else had asked the same question about the Playstation version of this game and got a "press other buttons?" response. I misunderstood that you had to not be in the rightsick menu.

You can actually see the button controls by pressing Select >> Controls.

It doesn't tell me anything about the left trigger button. No label near it. Can't read it if it isn't there. :)
