Tales of Zestiria Doushi no Yoake is a OVA about the intro of the game (Sorey's village etc...)
To be honest, you don't really need to play Zestiria before if you don't like it (you'll just miss some references between the game, they are'nt directly connected). You can just start Berseria and watch the anime later to avoid spoilers
But since you don't really like Zestiria, you can just play Berseria and watch the anime after cause of the spoilers (even if it's not that much, it's still spoil, so up to you)
Did you like ToZ?
Well, wish me luck! Im diving in - ToZ, here we go - for the bloody fourth time!
By the way, i've applied both the 1.8.5 and the reshade patches but it seems that now im back to 30fps (after overwitting my files with the reshade patch). What gives ? :(
Overall, the anime is a very huge disappointment other than the graphics. Especially Season 2, where time is wasted on Sorey being unnecessarily philosophical and keep talking about Malevolence. He is way too serious and gloomy compared to the cheerful Sorey in the game. Also, where's the action?! plz no more talking.
I heard the manga adaptation is much better as it stays faithful to the game's lore, while expanding on what the game lacked.
If you do want to start Zestiria first, just an advice from me. Don't need to care about the skill chart at all, how it actually works isn't too complicated but it does feels complicated at first glance. But still, you can if ignore it because you will eventually switch to stronger equipments when you get them during your playthrough. You only need focus on raising the basic stats on the equipments, like the Attack/Defense stats by fusing equipments with the same name. Side note, the "focus" stat affect SC regeneration rate and also slightly increases the probability to deal status ailments or stun to enemies.
Zestiria's is kind of slow at the very beginnings so you need to be patient despite the "boredom" if you want to continue the game. To be honest, most tales games starts slow. The game gets much more interesting afterwards but don't expect any mind blowing contents. By the way, Doushi no Yoake was just a promotional CD which was released during game release. It only shows the beginning about Sorey meeting Alisha and the village and stuffs and that's all.
