Over the years, some word usage has been changed, but they are the same thing.
Malak(plural Malakhim) = Seraph(plural Seraphim)
Daemon = Hellion
Daemonblight = Malevolence
Exorcists = Shepherd/Squires
By the way, a lot of place shares heavy resemblance to Berseria as you keep on playing Zestiria. Some examples are:
Brigid Ravine = Westronbolt Gorge
Empyrean's throne = Artorius' throne
Loegres = Pendrago
Hexen Isle
There also some characters who are related to Berseria, that you are going to meet like Zaveid, Eizen(turned into a dragon), Eizen's sister - Edna, Maotelus(after laphicet turns to dragon in the ending), Phoenix the Normin(if you did the titania island optional boss sidequest).Etc.
3000 or 1000?
:D
Also from what I could gather, it was meant to be at least a thousand years ago, not a definite number like it was set 1000 years ago.
Thanks
Everything happens 1000 years ago.
Another connection regarding Zaveid - You fight 3 wyverns in Lothringen, just as Velvet is about to kill one of them, Zaveid steps in and stops her causing the wyvern to escape. In Zestiria while exploring the Wetlands area, you fight a 'Legendary Wyvern', and after defeating it, you get a cutscene with Zaveid stating that this is where his journey with his old companions began.
Lastonbell used to be a small village called Stonebury in Berseria. You get to meet the founders of the city in that village, and they'll mention on how they plan to build stuff.
Lothringen is actually the exact same as in Zestiria, aside from the fact that it's not destroyed in Berseria.
Regarding Velvet in Zestiria/Berseria
Although she is never directly mentioned in ToZ, she is the first Lord of Calamity, Heldalf being the Lord of Calamity during Zestiria's timeline.
You fight a Wyvern, Sorey asks if it was someone he once knew, it looks suspiciously like the Wyvern you try to fight but Zaveid protects in Berseria. (A seraph in Zesty mentions he thought it was taken care of a long time ago)
Then people talk about how shocked he once had friends, he said they were acquaintances, but he'd like to see them again, but "probably couldn't". This was in the Wetlands near the area you meet him in Berseria, next to what was then the port town that Eizen and Aifreed's crew helped build up a bit.
It was way too coincidence. I believe he was actually talking about Velvet. Though he didn't agree with her methods, she seemed to influence his current creed in Zestiria, and he still respected her quite a bit.
