No matter what else i play, i always come back to this game. I came across it randomly and decided to give it a try. Now, i can't help but come back and play a lives every few months or so.

Its true that the game itself can be clunky in it's controls and lacks many of the fancier features of some of the later descendants in the survival crafting rougelikes. But the game itself is excellent once you get past the controls. It's not cram-packed with extras and useless features. The entire game is only as complicated as it needs to be to achieve what it wants. The game is difficult to learn, and impossible to win.

But those of you who used to play a certain game i know of know already: Losing is fun.

The early game is just a matter of stabilizing your food supply enough to not have to worry about the next day, then the next week, then the next month. Once done, you focus on some of the luxuries, a house, better clothes, and amenities. You settle into a slow steady rhythm of getting food, processing it and trading or making things in between. The danger is in boredom and silly risks. What kills you is going out of the ordinary or making a stupid gamble. Or the occasional invisible robber that comes out of nowhere to break your knees and take your pants, and gloves, leaving you to wang-freezing death in the frigid expanse of snow you live in.

TL:DR - a very lean game with tight focus and difficult to master systems and slightly tedious controls that keeps you coming back for it's familiar charms again and again.
