@Wazgob: Yes, Visions of the Aftermath seems very fitting to be one of the earlier pioneers, haven't played it myself though. The was even '86 DOS text game called "Wilderness: A Survival Adventure". I'm quite sure these both these have come up upon GWR research but hard to pinpoint inclusion and showcasing of the key elements of the genre must have mattered in the recognition. And as we see the record tiles are always more straightforward than the more verbose description of the conclusion.
Btw. I wish for this game future to be even more "free" than it is.
Beeing able to live any life possible and cooexisting with villages as part of nation would be great.
I realy would love to become smith or trader. Or rancher and sell my Rudolf's to nations where they are not as common.
