A hike through a 'dying' forest
http://imgur.com/a/4EZg0

I'm leaving my country for a neighboring one in few days; and so visited my parents to say goodbye. They live in the suburbs, and there's this 'forest' starting just in the other side of their road. The suburb used to be a tiny village 3 or 4 decades ago; yet the woods remain relatively isolated, minding the fact that 1.5 million people live right next to it.

'Civilization' however did its magic. The water in the small rivers isn't exactly clean (local shepherds told me there are some suspicious pipes ending inside the water), while today there's minimal wildlife (turtles, crows, hawks and snakes, basically....). A military camp, a company-owned shooting range, a motocross pit and a municipality 'waste area' are within walking range. You can imagine what those did to the place. I keep finding old rifles shells as well, whenever I'm there. Wanna-be hunters proving their masculinity in the wrong places.

I have great memories, nevertheless; Once, I saw a goat, alone, staring at me on top of a rock. Not a wild one, obviously, it had a label pierced through it's ear. An hour later, I was carrying it on my shoulders [succesful spontaneous persistence hunting ;) ]. If that'd happen nowdays, I'd defenitely butcher the fella and throw a BBQ... Yet then, I decided to take it to the closest shepherd (frankly, I didn't even consider it as possible food then, the city boy that I was!). I also had a quite ..unique.. trip in those woods, couple years ago, mueheh....

So I decided to say goodbye to the woods as well, with some final -for the time being- hikes.

There's a link on top of the post. As you can see, the goat I once caught wasn't the only one to get lost ! Also, I never before encountered such holes. Foxes, I pressume? No idea though, a city boy is a city boy, haha. They were abandoned (intact spider webs in the entrances, no animal tracks in the area), even tho as you can see there were signs of past activity... If you do know what they might be, please, enlighten me ! Also, I didn't mention the country/region on purpose; any guesses ??

Thought of sharing, even if it might not be the most interesting place, for a stranger ! There are way more beautiful places, yet this one has a special place in my heart.

The sweet girls name is Ira (Hera) :)

Looks like Greece to me, the "Red soil" and rocky hills near a 1.5 Million people City? Must be Thessaloniki eh?
