Game won't let me change portrait

I've been going to the unreal/charactername folder and replacing the portrait.png, but then when I load up the game it still has the old portrait. After I close the game, I go back to the unreal/charactername folder and the portrait.png has REVERTED back to the old one. I've done this like 10 times in a row with the same result everytime. Why the hell does it keep doing this?? Cool game, but yeah the portraits suck.

If you'd like to change the portraits you can do it like this.

Go to the UnReal World install folder.
Go to trueGFX.

Inside the trueGFX folder are the character portraits, you can add more, or replace the old ones.

To replace, simply overwrite it.

To add, name your new portrait something like "north6.png" "east5.png", etc. etc.

Also, who doesn't love the portraits of Sami and Co?
To deface such perfect images is surely blasphemy! ;)

Oh gee finally figured it out, I thought the portrait on the right side of the screen was 'north5' but it was actually 'east1' (they are identical). Finally an hour later I have suceeded in changing my portrait! ;oP No offense to Sami and Co, but there are some much nicer portraits available from movies / t.v. / games etc..I just had to get a nice picture of Schwarzenegger for my Conan character ;o)

Good to hear, and yes the game does re-use some portraits for certain cultures. There are only so many faces to go around! Glad I could help, enjoy the Unreal World! :)
