All of my games have been in the north or east so maybe that's my problem. I haven't tried using animals yet. What makes dogs useful?
Being in the north you should have invested in trapping but you can overcome that. What I did was kill enough travlers to keep me fed (warriors included) and the supplies I gain from that can buy me a dog but what they do is occasionaly bite the animals (which damages the hide) but they mostly tire it out so you can run on them and cripple them. If you dont want to be a murderer you can arrow them down which has a similar effect when it comes to slowing them down with injuries but if you are a terrible bowman make javlins (however they are spelt) but they are a lot less effective. im not a super pro at this game i only have 1 game thats been around a few years. But ive never starved to death
Forgot to mention islanders are EASY to steal from if you have a punt or raft
